Haider Ali

Haider Ali

Bowler
Left Handed & Slow left-arm orthodox

Destiny has its own way of surprising us, and who would have thought that Haider Ali, whose roots trace back to Pakistan and who once struggled just to put money on the table, would one day go on to become the leader of the UAE’s spin attack. During the pandemic, Haider’s reality was a far cry from professional cricket. With work hard to come by, he sold fruit on the streets of Lahore to help his family and even worked nights as a waiter after practice to make ends meet. His dream of pursuing cricket remained alive, but opportunities were scarce.

In 2021, Haider moved to the UAE in search of better prospects. Cricket still felt distant at first, but he found a lifeline in the form of club cricket. He gradually improved and began to stand out in domestic competitions, building a reputation as a reliable left-arm spinner. Those performances opened the door to franchise cricket. Haider earned a contract in the International League T20 with the Dubai Capitals and played an important part in their Season 3 triumph. The exposure against top-quality opposition further sharpened his skills and strengthened his case for international recognition.

A call-up to the UAE national side did not come immediately, as he had to meet the eligibility criteria, but his steady growth and consistent displays made sure that when the opportunity arrived, he was ready. After serving his qualification period, the wait finally ended in 2025 when Haider Ali made his T20I debut for the UAE. In his maiden series against Bangladesh, he rose to the occasion in the decider to help his side clinch a memorable series win. Later in the year, he impressed against the likes of Afghanistan and Pakistan and headed into the Asia Cup as one of the key figures in UAE’s bowling attack.
