OUT! CAUGHT! Not third time lucky, but certainly fourth time lucky for Josh Tongue. Saud Shakeel cannot believe what he has done here as he walks back for 97 and to a standing ovation. Tongue persists with the short ball even after being hit for three boundaries in the previous over. This is dug in over middle, and Shakeel flat-bats the full straight down the throat of the deep backward square leg fielder. Harry Brook makes no mistake standing just inches inside the ropes and Shakeel shakes his head, wondering what could have been.

FOUR! A fortuitous boundary and Archer isn't pleased. Full of a good length, at the stumps. Shahzad swings through the line but gets an inside edge just past the leg stump and the ball runs down to fine leg for a boundary. Pakistan are 169/6, needing 220 more for the win.

OUT! TIMBER! There's the breakthrough England wanted. Jofra Archer hits a good length at 141 clicks, naturally slanting the ball back in from outside off. Ali Usman hops back to defend but the ball shoots up, and Usman ends up chopping the ball back onto the thigh pad before the ball goes back onto the stumps. Archer gives Usman a bit of a sending off as well, and the fighting stand for the 6th wicket comes to an end. Pakistan are 146/6, and England are likely just 3 wickets away from the win.

Shakeel holds down the fort - Pakistan started the post-Lunch session at 53/3, with Saud Shakeel and Shan Masood looking to build on their fight. There was a rain break, and the duo managed to steer Pakistan to 111/3 at one point, but then England hit back with a couple of quick wickets thanks to Ollie Robinson. However, Ali Usman has shown great grit and has given much-needed support to Shakeel, who is batting on an unbeaten 78. Pakistan still need 249 for the win, which seems like a mountain to climb, but can they force things into Day 5? We shall find out soon as the final sessikn begins at 4 pm GMT. Stay tuned.

2.08 pm GMT - Good news! We have a resumption time. All the covers are finally off, and we will start the play again at 2.15 pm GMT. The second session will now be extended till 3.40 pm GMT, and then Tea will be taken. The final session is scheduled to run from 4 pm GMT to 6 pm GMT, with a total of 96 overs expected to be bowled in the day. Let's hope that there are no further breaks in play due to the weather.

1.55 pm GMT - Well, the rain seems to have stopped now, which is great news. The full covers were on a few minutes back, but they are starting to come off. Hopefully, we should get a prompt resumption.

1.37 pm GMT - Uh, oh! That's taken everyone by surprise. A dark cloud approaches Lord's, and there's a slight drizzle as well. The umpires take the players off the field, and the hover cover is on as well. Just one big, angry cloud and there are blue skies in the distance. Should be a passing shower only, but you never know. Welcome back for the second session of Day 4. Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel have an absolute mountain to climb, and survival out here will take pure grit. Jofra Archer marks his run-up. Three slips and a gully in place. Here we go...

... DAY 4, SESSION 2 ...

Robinson x Archer, the deadly duo - England resumed their overnight stay with the bat at 177/7 but were soon down to 187/9 before Josh Tongue got a couple of boundaries away and took the final total to 208. Having set Pakistan a target of 389, Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer came out breathing fire. Archer was bowling thunderbolts, whereas Robinson showed his mastery of holding immaculate lines and lengths. In the last half hour or so, England couldn't quite bowl with the bite as they did early on. However, there's still plenty on offer for the bowlers and the hosts will be looking to inflict more damage after the break. The post-Lunch session is scheduled to start at 12.55 pm GMT, so stay tuned for the action.

Abbas' five-for, but Pakistan's top-order falters - A mixed bag of a session for the visitors, as with the ball, they managed to pick up the remaining 3 English wickets inside the first 40 minutes thanks to a fine display from Mohammad Abbas. However, with the bat, it has been the same old story. With Imam-ul-Haq out with an injury, Shan Masood came out to open alongside Azan Awais. The latter was the first one to fall, triggering a mini collapse, and Pakistan were reduced to 14/3. Masood, however, has used all his previous County Cricket experience to hold up one end. Saud Shakeel has looked positive, scoring a few quick runs as the visitors look to keep the fight alive.

12.19 pm GMT - LUNCH, DAY 4 - That's the end of the first session on Day 4, and England are firmly in command at the moment. That opening burst from Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer has done enough damage, but Pakistan are showing signs of life as Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel try to grind for as long as possible.

Atkinson hits the top of the off stump from around the wicket. Saud hangs back and gets on top of the bounce. Opens the bat face slightly before punching it through point. Ollie Robinson goes after it and hauls it in but cannot prevent the batters from taking the third run. Good running, and with that, it will be Lunch on Day 4.

The length is pulled back a bit by Gus, outside off. It is not close enough to make the batter play and that results in an easy leave.

At 140 kph, pitched up by Atkinson, on off. Shakeel extends his hands and cracks the drive but picks out Ollie Robinson at cover.

Draws the batter forward with a full ball, does Gus. Shakeel leans across and pushes it back to the bowler with a straight bat.

Bowled by going wide on the crease, a bit fuller, on off. This does not move much off the deck and Saud shuffles to tap it down to cover.

Angled in at the hips, on the shorter side. Masood stays back and makes use of the angle, nurdling it behind square leg for a single. 50 up for Pakistan.

Okay then, we will get one more over in before Lunch. It will be Gus Atkinson to bowl the final over before the break.

Fuller in length, on off. Saud does not get the width to free his arms and he stabs it down the deck.

Into the wicket by Tongue, jags back a bit into the left-hander. Not short enough to trouble the batter, and this was there to be pulled away, but Shakeel got into a tangle and just ended up fending at the ball.

At 141 kph, on a nagging length, in and around the off stump. Saud lets the ball come on and plays it right under his eyes. Angles it off the back foot to to gully.

In the channel, on a length. Saud is happy to let it go.

At 143 kph, too full, on off. Saud hangs low and the ball pings off his blade as he crunches the drive. Dan Lawrence at a catching cover makes a sharp stop low to his right.

FOUR! Width offered and Shakeel cashes in. England won't mind this shot as Saud played it well away from his body. On a good length, outside off. Saud leans across, extends his hands and drives it on the up through covers.

A play and a miss. Gus pushes the length up, on off. Shan is sucked into the drive and his feet go nowhere. He is lucky not to have nicked it behind.

Around off, on the shorter side. Shan guides it to gully, where the fielder makes a diving stop to his left.

On a back of a length, on middle. Shan nudges it to mid-wicket.

Delivers it on a good length, on off, this does not rise much but Shan gets his bat down to keep it out.

Nearly dragged it back onto the stumps. Jagging back in sharply, this is neither that short nor that wide for the cut but Saud flashes at the ball. It takes the inside edge and sneaks past the stumps before going to deep fine leg. They cross.

FOUR! Off the edge. Just outside the off pole, on a nagging length. Saud does well not to push at the ball with hard hands. He lets the ball come on and looks to play it with soft hands. The outside edge goes down and past gully for a boundary.

Gus Atkinson to have a bowl now. He'll probably just get one over in before Lunch.

On a back of a length, on middle. Shan gets on his toes to work it away on the leg side but gets an inside edge onto the pads.

Targeting the off pole, on a length. Shan presses forward and jams out an inside edge onto the pads.

A better throw could have found Saud wanting. Tongue slips in a full ball, on middle. Masood walks across the stumps a bit too much and his head falls over to the off side on the flick. He just about manages to get a bit of bat on the ball before it thuds into the pads. Shakeel is unsure about the second run but Masood pushes him for it. Gus Atkinson swoops in off the deep fine leg fence and fires in a throw at the bowling end with Saud scampering to make his ground. Joe Root stays side on and gathers the ball to his left before breaking the stumps. The replays show that Shakeel's desperate dive saved him there.

Is that a run out? Pretty scrappy play out there in the middle. Saud Shakeel seemed to be really struggling to make his ground, but the throw wasn't a good one either at the bowler's end. Replays show that Shakeel managed to get back thanks to a dive. NOT OUT!

FOUR! Not in complete control, but Masood will take it. Tongue hits the hard length, around off. Shan throws his hands at the ball, and there is a bit of lift off the deck. It takes more off a top edge but flies behind point for four more.

Much better from Tongue. Fuller in length and closer to the off stump. Shan leaves it all alone.

FOUR! Put away. Not all that wide but enough for Masood to free his arms. Banged in on a hard length by Tongue. Shan gets on his toes and gets on top of the bounce before punching it to the left of point for a boundary.

Angled in towards the off pole before holding its line, on a length. Saud plays for the inward angle with a straight blade but is squared up due to the seam movement and gets hit on the back thigh outside the line of the off stump.

Closer to the off stump and on a good length. It kicks up a bit and straightens as well but Saud manages to tap it down the deck.

From around the wicket now for Shakeel and the length is pushed up, outside off. Saud gets a big stride across the stumps and shoulders arms.

Too straight, at the hips. Shan fails to lay any bat on the tickle. The ball clips the thigh pad and goes behind on the leg side for a leg bye.

Fuller than the previous ball, attacking the front pad. Shan leans across and wrists it to square leg.

Moving back in the air at 123 kph, on a good length, on the off stump. Masood plays a punchy drive to cover.

On the off stump, on a short of a length. Masood pats it wide of cover and crosses over.

Outside off, on a back of a length that is left alone for the keeper to collect.

Fuller in length, around off. Shan ekes out an inside edge onto the pads as the ball jags back in.

Rapped on the pads. That did not rise at all, and there was not much that Shan Masood could have done about it. Josh Tongue can be heard saying that he does not think it has hit Masood outside the line. Joe Root checks with the men behind the bat before sending it upstairs. Seam-up ball, on a nagging length, on off. Shan hangs back and walks across to deal with it. It shoots through and pings Masood on the pads before he can get his bat down. It has been deemed that Shan was playing the shot, so impact will matter. The Ball Tracking shows that the impact was outside the line of the off pole and the on-field call is upheld. England have only one review left.

A bit of nip back into the left-hander, on a nagging length, on middle. Saud turns it behind square leg and crosses over.

Hits the back of a length, tucking the batter up for room at 136 kph. Shakeel hops and tucks it beside the strip on the leg side.

Jofra Archer has been given a rest, and in comes Josh Tongue to replace him. So, no respite for Pakistan, at least in terms of raw pace.

Drags the length back a bit, angling away. Shan leaves it alone.

Floated up at 123 kph, on off. Saud eases it with a straight bat to the left of mid off and takes a quick single. Joe Root mops it up by getting around to his left. Root throws but the ball does not come out of the hand right, and it is banged into the turf before dribbling away.

Around the off stump, keeps it full. Shakeel pushes it to cover.

FOUR! Edged away. Robinson serves it full, on off. Shakeel is lured into the drive and pushes at the ball with hard hands. Gets an outside edge that flies wide of third slip. Jordan Cox flings himself to his left but the ball stays out of his reach and races away.

Full and around off. Saud leans on and stabs it down.

Half a shout for LBW, but turned down. Joe Root checks with the keeper and the bowler before opting to take the review. Robinson lands it on a length, going away off the seam. Shakeel pushes out in front but is beaten past the outside edge and gets hit on the back thigh. This was bowled from over the wicket, so it may have pitched outside the line of the leg stump. As expected, the Ball Tracking has the ball landing outside the line of the leg pole. England lose their first review.

Fuller now, on off and middle, Masood clips it away to mid on.

Reminder that this is an extended first session, with the Lunch break to be taken at 12.15 pm GMT. Lunch could not come any sooner for Pakistan, given the way the English quicks have been testing them.

Back of a length again, this time Shakeel gets on his toes and gets his bat out in front, dabbing it wide of mid off for a single. No Ball called for overstepping as well.

Archer gets the ball to really climb off a length here. Back of a length at 144 clicks, hammered into the pitch, and Saud Shakeel takes evasive action.

The fuller delivery now, tight line around the off stump, and holding its line. Saud Shakeel looks to defend but the ball beats the outside edge.

Well played and well run as well. Short again, over off and middle, Masood leaps up and keeps it down to the right of the cover fielder, picking up a quick single.

That's another snorter from Archer. Banged in short around off, not all that short, but it shoots off the deck. Masood does well to just move out of the line of the ball and duck under it.

Short ball angled into the body, Masood hops up to tuck it leg side, but ends up jabbing it to short cover. Masood sets off for the single but doesn't realize that the ball went straight to the fielder, and Shakeel quickly sends him back.

Well kept out by Shakeel. Pitching around the fifth stump line, Saud gets a big stride across and smothers it to the off side.

Length ball, pushed back in towards the stumps, and this one straightens. Shakeel gets forward again and blocks it back to the bowler.

Pitched fuller and outside off, Shakeel lunges forward and defends it to short cover.

Nagging length, in and around off, darting back in. Shakeel gets the front foot across the line of off stump again and gets an inside edge to the leg side this time.

Half an appeal for LBW, but that's hit Shakeel outside the line. Full of a good length, pitching well outside off and jagging back in. Saud Shakeel gets a stride across to negate the movement but the ball beats the inside edge and hits the back leg.

Short of a good length, sliding into the pads, Masood tucks it down to long leg and picks up a single.

A beauty to end the over from Archer. Much fuller, angled into off, and this one nips away late. Shakeel looks to block but the ball whizzes past the outside edge.

FOUR! That's a fine shot to get off the mark. Back of a length, offering width outside off. Shakeel extends the arms and smacks it through cover-point for a boundary.

This is high-quality pace bowling from Jofra. Hammered into the deck at 144 kph, just a tad shorter and around off. This one shoots up sharply off the deck and Saud Shakeel does really well to drop the hands and let it pass. Jamie Smith ends up collecting it over his head.

Bowled from around the wicket, back of a length, wide outside off and shaping away. Saud Shakeel goes after it but is beaten by the movement.

Another short ball, dug in quickly but just down the leg side. Saud Shakeel ducks under it.

Out goes Babar Azam, and with that, the umpires have taken the DRINKS BREAK. Pakistan find themselves in all sorts of bother early on, and this English attack is going to keep coming at them. How do they get out of this? They cannot allow someone like Ollie Robinson to keep nagging away on a length and will need to find a way to put him off his length, but that is easier said than done. Saud Shakeel joins Shan Masood out in the middle.

OUT! CAUGHT! Wow, that is a really nasty one to get! Jofra Archer bends his back and bowls a snorter of a bumper at a searing 146 kph, darting back in towards the batter. Babar Azam is completely taken aback and tries to fend it off, but is rushed off the deck. The ball takes a bit of the top edge before hitting the helmet and lobbing up towards the slip cordon. Jordan Cox at third slip calls for it, and Dan Lawrence at gully also backpedals, but leaves it, and Cox pouches it safely. Pakistan are reeling at 14/3.

A beauty to finish the over from Robinson. Length ball on middle and leg, seams away a fair bit past the outside edge. Well taken by Jamie Smith to his left.

Nagging length, pitching it on off. This one goes straight on, and Shan prods ahead to defend.

FOUR! Robinson with a rare off-target delivery and Babar Azam helps himself to a welcome boundary. Full ball on the pads, Azam is standing a bit more towards the off side and flicks it down to fine leg for four runs.

Good length, just outside off, nips away with some extra bounce. Azam looks to defend but is well beaten.

Bowled from wider of the crease, angled back in from well outside off, but the ball pitches and seams away. Azam plays miles inside the line of that one.

Hard length, over off and middle at 144 clicks, Masood defends it solidly off the front foot.

Just back of a length, sliding it back in from around off. Masood hops back and dabs it down to mid-wicket.

Shorter now, a rib tickler from Jofra. Azam fends it down to fine leg and gets off the mark with a single. Testing times for the Pakistan batters.

Archer keeps the length full, on off, and the pace up at 146 kph. The ball darts back in and Azam pushes it out to wide mid on.

Ooh, nearly an outside edge right away. Full ball around off, shapes in but then seams away. Babar Azam goes for the expansive cover drive but the ball beats the outside edge.

Pitched up on middle and off, shaping away at 144 kph. Shan Masood plays it with soft hands to the right of cover and pinches a quick single.

OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! An absolute beauty by Ollie Robinson. A three-ball duck for Abdullah Shafique. Bowled by going wide on the crease and angles it in on a good length, on off and middle. Shafique brings his bat out in front to stab it down the deck. It angles in before straightening off the deck. It grazes a bit of the back pad before clattering into the off stump. Robinson gives the batter a bit of a send-off as well, letting out a loud roar right in his face. Two wickets in the over for Ollie, 6 for the game. Pakistan are in early trouble at 7/2.

Fuller and slanting in at the sticks, that is defended solidly off the front foot.

Interest around the bat! Bowled on a back of a length, outside off. Shafique looks to keep it out with a straight bat but plays well inside the line of the ball. Jamie Smith, standing up to the stumps, gathers and waits to see if Shafique's back leg is dragged out before whipping the bails off. A polite enquiry from the slip cordon and it is referred upstairs. The replays show that Shafique's back leg did slide out of the crease for a moment but he got back in before the bails were taken off.

OUT! LBW! A loud shout and the finger is raised. Azan Awais has a word with Shan Masood and eventually takes the review. From around the wicket, on a good length, around the off stump with the keeper up to the stumps. Awais presses forward and pushes out in front of his body with a straight blade. The ball cuts back in off the deck to go past the inside edge and pings Azan on the crouched back thigh. No bat involved. On Ball Tracking, the impact is umpire's call and the ball is crashing into the top of the middle stump. The on-field call is upheld. Pakistan keep the review but lose Awais. Ollie Robinson gives England the first success of the second innings. Pakistan are 7/1 in a chase of 389.

A short leg in place now, and it's Emilio Gay who dons the helmet.

A loose shot but Masood gets away with it. Closer to the off stump, on the shorter side. Shan gets on his toes to ride the bounce and punch it away. Plays away from his body and the ball sails over the blade.

At 141 clicks, on a hard length, going across. It gathers pace after pitching and keeps rising as well. Masood shoulders arms.

Archer has not quite found his radar yet. Slips in a full ball at 144 kph, down leg. Shan is beaten for pace and he fails to connect with the glance.

Drags the length back a bit, on off and middle. Azan stays back and taps it to cover.

This moves away in the air, on a good length. Azan plays well inside the line and is beaten past the outside edge.

Around the off stump, on a good length. Awais covers the line and is solid in defence.

At 125 kph, keeping the stumps in play. Azan lunges and defends it out.

Hooping back in at the sticks, full in length. Azan leans on and looks to defend with the bat close to the front pad. Squeezes out an inside edge as the ball dribbles to mid-wicket.

The keeper, Jamie Smith, comes up to the stumps now.

Begins with a full ball, attacking the front pad from around the wicket. Awais' head falls over to the off side and he plays around the front pad. Gets a soft leading edge and it rolls down the deck.

Archer switches to over the wicket for Shan and hurls a bouncer, over off. Masood rises with the bounce and gets his hands high to fend it down but the ball keeps climbing and zips past the blade.

Doing too much! Angled in at the pads, too straight, Azan gets on his toes to flick it away but fails to lay any bat on it. The ball thuds the left-hander in that unprotected area between the pad and the thigh pad. It goes down to deep fine leg for a leg bye.

On a length, outside off, Awais offers no shot.

A good response by Archer. Dishes out a sharp bumper, angled in towards the left shoulder. Azan drops his wrists and sways away as well to let the ball go through.

FOUR! Awais and Pakistan are underway. Archer drifts on the pads, on the fuller side. Azan makes use of the angle and, with a still head, plays a wristy flick. He does not quite go through with the shot and just checks the flick. Plays it over mid-wicket and picks up a boundary.

Archer bends his back and slams the deck but gets the line all wrong. This is well wide on and it is left alone for the keeper to collect.

Switches to around the wicket, does Robinson. On a good length, outside off. Masood is happy to let it go. The ball dies down on its way to the keeper and it just about carries to Jamie Smith.

Going across, not close enough to make the batter play and it is a bit too short as well. Masood hops across and shoulders arms.

Sprayed down leg, on a good length. Masood fails to help it away.

Fuller in length at 123 kph, targeting the off pole. Masood brings his bat out in front and has a bit of a jab at the ball. It squirts off the outer half to point.

Right behind it this time, is Masood. On a back of a length, on middle. Shan stands tall and stabs it down the deck.

Goes past the bat straight away. Wobble seam ball from over the wicket, moving away off the seam, on a nagging length. Masood's bat comes down at an angle and he plays for the one that comes back into him. The cherry leaves him with the angle to go past the outside edge.

OUT! JOSH TONGUE IS RUN OUT! Babar Azam hits the bullseye and even lets out a smile as Pakistan bowl out England for 208 runs. Mohammad Ali pitches the ball on a good length, around the top of off. Jofra Archer hits it straight to mid off and sets off for the single. But there's hesitation from Tongue and that's his downfall. Babar moves to his left and fires in a throw at the keeper's end, hitting the stumps. Tongue is well short and England end up with a second inning's lead of 388 runs.

A length ball on middle, darts back in sharply. Archer misses the flick by a long way, and the ball also misses the pad, brushing the calf and rolling down to fine leg. The batters pick up two leg byes.

Good length on middle, elegantly flicked away through mid-wicket for a single by Jofra.

Straight up in the air, but it lands perfectly between the two fielders. Fuller one at the stumps, looking to shape it away. Tongue flicks it but off the leading edge and back over the bowler's head, between mid off and mid on for a single.

An outswinger now, fairly wide of the off stump. Tongue goes after it but is well beaten.

Lovely delivery! Pushed a smidge fuller than a good length and in the channel around off. The ball holds its line and zips past the outside edge of Tongue's bat.

Too full and straight, Archer leans on and drives it to the left of long on for a single.

Mohammad Rizwan moves back to the normal standing position.

FOUR BYES! How has that missed the stumps? Length ball on middle, nips back in. Jofra Archer swings wildly across the line and is beaten on the inside edge. The ball bounces over the leg pole and goes quickly past the keeper to the fine leg fence. 200 UP FOR ENGLAND.

FOUR! That is a freebie, and Josh Tongue isn't missing out on that one. A full toss on off, Tongue leans on and punches the drive back past the bowler for another boundary. Really handy runs these, for England.

FOUR! Slightly uppish but in the gap. Length ball again, in and around off, Tongue is early into the square drive and gets it off the outer half of the blade through the vacant gully region for a boundary. England now lead by 375 runs.

Good length on off, blocked off by Tongue.

A huge appeal for LBW, especially from the bowler, but the umpire turns it down. Seems to be just sneaking down leg, but Babar Azam takes the review in hope. Mohammad Ali goes wider on the crease and jams in a really full ball at the toes. Josh Tongue plays all over it and gets hit on the pads. The third umpire has a look at it - there's no spike on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking shows that it is comfortably missing the stumps. The on-field decision of Not Out stands, and Pakistan are out of reviews.

Length ball in the channel, nips away nicely, Tongue ends up playing well inside the line.

Good length on off, straightens a bit. Tongue looks to go after it but decides against it and just keeps it out. Also, a No Ball is called for overstepping. According to the on-air commentators, this is Mohammad Ali's 8th No Ball of the match.

Tongue gets away with another one. Nice and full, pushed into the batter. Tongue looks to flick but gets a top edge, spooning it over Babar Azam at extra cover for a couple of runs.

'Catch it' is the call, but there's no one in that region. Outswinger from Abbas, pitching it fuller around off. Josh Tongue goes for the booming cover drive but edges it through the backward point region for a single.

Mohammad Rizwan goes back to his usual position for the last ball.

Length ball around off, Tongue goes after it but gets it more off the inside half of the blade and to the left of the bowler.

The sun is out - It is nice and sunny at the moment, in contrast to the kind of morning we had yesterday. Interestingly, Imam-ul-Haq has been spotted taking throwdowns. He has his left calf strapped, but you never know, Pakistan may need him to dig in and hold one end if the situation calls for it.

Making up for lost time - In case you are wondering why they cannot start early, that is not how it works here in England. There are no early starts. Instead, we make up time lost to rain with extended sessions, and that will be the case today as well. It will be a 2-hour-15-minute first session, with Lunch at 12.15 pm GMT. The second session will run from 12.55 pm to 3.10 pm GMT, with the third and final session of the day starting at 3.30 pm GMT. Play can be extended until 7 pm GMT.

More trouble for Pakistan - The word going around is that Imam-ul-Haq, who picked up a calf strain while fielding in the first innings, will need around 10 days to recover. He did not bat in the first innings and, although there is no official word yet from Pakistan on whether he will take any further part in the game or the series, him batting in the second innings looks unlikely.

Difficult but not impossible - That is what Mohammad Ali had to say about the task that lies ahead of Pakistan, and he remains hopeful of a positive result. If the Asian side do manage to avoid defeat in this Test, we will have witnessed something remarkable. But that is for later. First up is the task of finishing off England’s innings, something Pakistan have found difficult in recent times. They will have to hit their straps straight away to limit the damage.

Pitch under the spotlight - Lord’s has been under heavy criticism recently for the up-and-down nature of the surfaces here. Day 3 brought that unevenness to the fore, with the ball also moving around laterally quite a lot under overcast skies. England are already 357 runs ahead, and if the pitch continues to behave unpredictably, it will only add to Pakistan’s challenge.

It looked like we might get some play late in the evening yesterday as the skies began to clear, but to the surprise of many, play was eventually called off. The weather looks better than yesterday, although rain is expected to arrive around Lunch. A fleeting passage - We managed only 14 balls in the final session before the rain returned, with a couple of false starts offering hope of a restart, only for the gloomy conditions to keep getting in the way. England added 15 runs, stretching their lead to 357, but lost Gus Atkinson to Mohammad Ali in the brief passage of play. At the other end, Dan Lawrence brought up a fine fifty and looked in the mood to take the attack on, something England will likely look to continue when they return to the middle.

Rain finally gives way - After the entire morning was washed out, the players finally got back on the field, only for another spell of rain to interrupt proceedings. The conditions remained tough, with the ball jagging around and keeping the batters on their toes, but England were intent on making the most of whatever play was available. Gay’s solid overnight effort came to an abrupt end when a delivery kept ridiculously low, while Lawrence stood firm and looked to attack alongside Brook, who made a lively 34. Smith then became Abbas’ third victim without adding much, but England still managed to pocket 81 runs in the session, taking their lead to 342 by Tea.

5.35 pm GMT - STUMPS, DAY 3! Well, the outcome we feared has arrived. The umpires have taken another light reading, and it appears to be above the limit set on Day 1. With little confidence that the conditions will improve sufficiently in time, they have decided there will be no further play today and have called STUMPS on Day 3 due to Bad Light.

UPDATE - 5.33 pm GMT - The skies have brightened up slightly, with the umpires now in conversation with the ground staff. However, there is still no sign of the covers being moved, and with the clock ticking away, the chances of getting back on the field are becoming slimmer by the minute.

UPDATE - 5.20 pm GMT - The hide-and-seek with the rain continues, with the latest shower now clearing and a few of the covers being peeled back. The umpires are out in the middle having another look at the conditions, but there is still a question over whether the light is good enough for play to resume.

UPDATE - 4.58 pm GMT - Here we go again! The rain has eased up quite a bit, and the side covers have been peeled back off the surface. The hover cover stays put for now. However, the light is a separate headache altogether. It's been gloomy out there, and the floodlights have been blazing pretty much since the first ball was bowled. Pakistan will be hoping to get the start sooner, as they would want to bundle up their opposition before the end of the Day and start fresh on Day 4. Just as we type this update, the intensity of the rain has picked up again and all the covers are coming back on. The chances of getting more action looks pretty bleak now even if the rain stops.

UPDATE - 4.32 pm GMT - And just when the umpires stepped out to inspect the pitch, the rain came right back, picking up pace once more, and the side covers are rushed back on. Did we jinx it, folks?

UPDATE - 4.26 pm GMT - Well folks, here's some positive news! The rain has eased off, though a light drizzle is still coming down. The side covers have already been cleared off the field, and now it's just the hover cover standing guard over the main track. If things go in the right direction, we might get the resumption sooner than we expected.

UPDATE - 4.08 pm GMT - No, no, no, not again! The heavens have opened up once again. With the rain steadily intensifying, the umpires have no choice but to send the players scurrying off the field. The hover cover glide back over the pitch, and the groundstaff spring into action, hauling the giant sheets across to shield the middle square from the elements.

We are back for the last session of this Moving Day! After so many interruptions throughout the day, we still witnessed some brilliant cricket. The hover cover is moving away from the center of the park, and the players are slowly taking their positions on the field. Intense battle - Pakistan have, however, kept the pressure on in conditions that are making batting anything but straightforward. The ball is nipping around and behaving unpredictably off the surface, with the gloomy conditions offering plenty for the seamers to work with. Emilio Gay fell for 31 with a grubber undoing all his hard work. Harry Brook counter-attacked, but he too was dismissed for 34 and Jamie Smith for 7, with Mohammad Abbas doing all the damage. Brook, in particular, was undone by a superb delivery that moved away late and found the edge, while Lawrence has had to work hard for his runs and, alongside Gus Atkinson, saw it out before rain forced an Early Tea. It has been a proper battle between bat and ball, with every scoring opportunity having to be earned. The final session is scheduled to start at 3.55 pm GMT, but could be delayed with all the rain around.

3.35 pm GMT - TEA, DAY 3! Uh..oh! The rain is coming down quite heavily, and it is also a bit gloomy out there. Common sense has prevailed, and the umpires have called for EARLY TEA. Hopefully, the rain stops quickly, and we get to resume action after the break. England have made steady progress in a rain-hit session at Lord’s, adding 81 runs and losing 3 wickets to move from 81/3 to 162/6, stretching their overall lead to 342 runs. The progress has come despite the interruptions, with England scoring positively whenever play has been possible.

UPDATE - 1.10 pm GMT - Well, just when things were starting to look up, the rain has returned. It is only a light drizzle for now, but with the restart already pushed back, it looks increasingly likely that the start will be delayed again. The covers are coming back on, and once again we are left hoping this latest spell of rain passes quickly.

UPDATE - 1 pm GMT - Things are finally moving in the right direction. The covers are being rolled back and the groundstaff are getting to work, with 1.15 pm GMT now the latest scheduled start time. After all the stop-start drama, the big question is whether the weather will finally stay away long enough for us to get some cricket underway.

UPDATE - 12.42 pm GMT - Scratch that last update - the rain has returned at Lord’s, meaning the planned 1 pm GMT start is now in doubt and we are in for a longer delay than expected. The covers are back on once again, leaving everyone frustrated after it briefly looked like we were finally heading towards some play. For now, it is back to waiting for another break in the weather.

UPDATE - 12.38 pm GMT - Some more positive news from Lord’s! The official word is that play is scheduled to resume at 1 pm GMT, provided there is no further rain. The groundstaff have been working hard during this break, and with the weather currently holding, there is finally a real chance of getting back underway. Now, all eyes will be on the skies!

The rain has stayed away for now and the hover cover is off, with the groundstaff making the most of this break to work on the playing surface. They are getting through plenty of work in the hope of having the ground ready for action, but the biggest wish right now is for the rain to stay away.

12.15 pm GMT - LUNCH, DAY 3 - Ughhh... Day 3 at Lord's and we're still staring at covers instead of cricket, with that, the LUNCH HAS BEEN TAKEN. If you are joining us late, let us inform you that not a single ball has been bowled so far as persistent morning showers have kept the pitch and square fully covered throughout the first session. There was a brief window where the rain eased and hopes flickered back to life among fans desperate to see England pressing their advantage as the Three Lions resume on 81 for 3 in their second innings, sitting on a commanding 261-run lead after bowling Pakistan out for just 110. But just as quickly as those hopes rose, the rain came crashing back, and the covers stayed put. Classic English summer cruelty.

The pacers turn up the heat - Pakistan’s pacers came out firing after the break and gave England plenty to think about, with Khurram Shahzad making early inroads by removing Duckett and Cox. They were also unlucky at times, beating the edge repeatedly without the resulting chances carrying to hand. Root and Gay then steadied England with a 47-run stand before Ali got Root for 24, bringing Brook to the crease. The England batter had a huge lbw appeal to survive first ball, but settled quickly and, with Gay holding firm at the other end, the pair guided England through the rest of the session. Pakistan finally had something to cheer about with the ball, but England still hold the advantage.
