Welcome back for the chase. The umpires and the players are out in the middle. Ackeem Auguste and Justin Greaves open up for West Indies. Jacob Duffy has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
In a special ceremony, Cricket West Indies paid tribute to Kemar Roach after he reached the historic milestone of capturing 300 Test wickets.
The fightback - Latham provided a brief late-overs spark, taking Jayden Seales for 14 runs in the 44th over to push the total upward. But the hosts' bowling attack roared back brilliantly in the death overs, removing both Latham and Mitchell Santner in quick succession to completely plug the boundary flow. New Zealand ultimately fizzled out to finish on 268, a total that feels a bit short given their platform, setting up a thrilling second half where dew could play a massive role during the chase.
New Zealand did well in the middle overs - Young brought up a hard-fought half-century, surviving a bizarre run-out scare along the way, before eventually falling to Lawes while attempting a reverse sweep. Nick Kelly then assumed the anchor role, teaming up with skipper Tom Latham to keep the scoreboard moving nicely through the middle phase. However, just as their 50-run partnership promised a grand launchpad and Kelly tried to raise the tempo, the Windies struck back with quick wickets to keep the visitors from breaking away.
New Zealand end their innings at 268/9 - The BlackCaps faced a tough test right from the start as the West Indies pacers extracted sharp bounce and movement off a tricky pitch. Matthew Forde made an early breakthrough by knocking over Henry Nicholls, but Will Young and Nick Kelly showed great resolve against a testing opening spell. As the ball softened and spin was introduced through Vitel Lawes, the duo adapted cleverly, rotating the strike consistently and building a solid foundation to guide New Zealand through the early storm.

Commentary
New Zealand secure series victory - New Zealand clinch the 5-match ODI series 3-2 after a highly competitive campaign in the Caribbean, even though the West Indies claimed ultimate bragging rights by winning a thrilling fifth and final match. While Shai Hope's men will take immense confidence from their resilient, match-winning run chase to finish on a high note, it is Mitchell Santner's NZ who fly home with the silverware. Thank you for joining us. Cheers!
New Zealand captain - Mitchell Santner reflects on yet another great, closely contested game in what has been a highly competitive series. While acknowledging that his team fell just short of a victory today, Santner praises his bowlers for fighting back valiantly to drag the match deep. He explains that recent squad rotation is a natural result of their dense playing schedule, leaving the team in a strong position to build depth. Noting that West Indies pitches are slower than the decks back home, he points out that winning the toss is crucial in these conditions, though he smiles at the welcome sight of plenty of turn. Santner lauds the impact of Lennox, noting his long-term domestic success in New Zealand and his clear role of attacking the stumps, while also praising Gudakesh Motie for an outstanding series performance.
West Indies captain - Shai Hope highlights the fighting spirit his team displayed throughout the series, while identifying a pressing need for much greater consistency, a quality he notes has been missing in recent campaigns. He urges his squad to put together a complete game by pointing back to missed opportunities during the matches in Guyana. Looking back at his own recent performances, he points out that a costly dropped catch in the previous game and his own lack of runs were critical moments where they let the opposition off the hook.
POTS - Jayden Lennox wins the Player Of The Series. Jayden Lennox took 11 wickets in the series. Lennox expresses deep enjoyment in playing on spin-friendly pitches, noting that the entire tour serves as an excellent learning experience. Jayden Lennox highlights the value of studying the craft of left-arm orthodox bowling from teammate Mitchell Santner, who has executed it successfully for a long time. While he feels there is no single magical secret to his recent success, he considers himself fortunate to perform well.
POTM - Shimron Hetmyer wins the Player Of The Match award for his knock of 69 off 64 balls. Shimron Hetmyer expresses immense satisfaction, emphasizing that personal milestones like scoring a half-century were completely out of his mind. Shimron reveals that the team's continuous strategy was simply to stay at the crease and wait for deliveries in their hitting zones without overthinking. He credits their success to calculated shot selection and a crucial middle-order partnership, during which he advised his incoming partner to just focus on the ball.
Presentation ...
Earlier - New Zealand's batting innings promised a commanding total but ultimately crumbled late as the West Indies bowlers staged a disciplined comeback in the final ten overs. On a challenging, lively wicket that offered significant swing, seam, and unpredictable bounce early on, Kiwi openers Henry Nicholls and Will Young fought hard before Matthew Forde broke the opening stand. Young anchored the innings with a steady half-century before falling to spinner Vitel Lawes, while Nick Kelly held the middle order together with a resilient knock. Tom Latham later provided a brief spark of acceleration, taking 14 runs off a single Jayden Seales over to put the BlackCaps back in control. However, the West Indies pacers turned the tide by removing both Santner and Latham in quick succession, triggering a late-innings collapse finishing on 268.
Kiwi bowlers Fought hard - While New Zealand’s bowling unit struggled with consistency throughout the innings, they showed immense grit to drag a seemingly lost game into the 48th over. Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox was the standout performer, picking up three wickets while choking the runs at an economy rate of under 4 per over. In contrast, senior pacer Jacob Duffy also claimed three scalps but proved expensive, leaking over 8 runs an over, while Nathan Smith and Michael Bracewell chipped in with a wicket apiece in a losing cause.
Middle-order resilience - A solid 95-run partnership between Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford decided the game, as they counter-attacked to bring the hosts within striking distance of the target. However, New Zealand's bowlers refused to surrender, triggering a dramatic late-order collapse that saw the West Indies slide from a commanding 239 for 5 to a shaky 248 for 8. With the pressure mounting, Hetmyer took charge, clearing the boundary ropes a few times in the dying stages of the match to safely guide his side across the finish line.
Explosive start sets the foundation - West Indies launched their chase of 269 with an aggressive, front-foot approach as openers Ackeem Auguste and Justin Greaves put on a flying 57-run stand inside the first six overs. Although both openers were dismissed in quick succession, Shai Hope and Keacy Carty showed great maturity to steady the ship, halting a potential collapse with a patient 59-run partnership off 99 balls. Just as the West Indies looked comfortably in control, New Zealand struck back by removing both set batters in rapid succession, swinging the momentum back to the bowling side.
FOUR! Jayden Seales hit the winning runs and West Indies win by 2 wickets. Pitched-up delivery, on middle and off, Jayden Seales collapses his back knee and lofts this over the mid on fielder for a boundary to bring this game to a close. West Indies win this game but New Zealand clinch the series 3-2.

Commentary

A quick chat - Gudakesh Motie says that his first five-wicket haul was bittersweet because the team lost and they should have reached a total of 250. He says that his bowling success came from staying consistent with his length on a pitch that aided spin. Motie also praises his bowling partner, Vitel Lawes, for performing well.
Pitch Report - Samuel Badree is pitchside. He reports that the weather is hot and windy, with a strong breeze. The game will be played on a firm, new pitch that is expected to favor batters once they take time to settle, unlike the previous ODI where spinners dominated with heavy turn. While dew could become a factor later in the match, he expects plenty of runs on this surface.
West Indies (Playing XI) - Ackeem Auguste, Justin Greaves, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope (C)(WK), Shimron Hetmyer (In for Amir Jangoo), Sherfane Rutherford, Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, Vitel Lawes.
New Zealand (Playing XI) - Will Young, Henry Nicholls, Nick Kelly, Mark Chapman, Tom Latham (WK), Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (C), Nathan Smith, Kristian Clarke (In for Matthew Fisher), Jacob Duffy, Jayden Lennox.
The captain of New Zealand - Mitchell Santner says that they were looking to bowl as well, but the toss is something they cannot control, and they try to put up a good score and see how it goes. He mentions that Matthew Fisher misses out in this game and Kristian Clarke comes in. He ends by saying that they give their best and try to win this game as well.
The captain of West Indies - Shai Hope says that they will bowl first and try to chase the total. He adds that the last game slipped, and they will try to leave that behind and bounce back. He mentions that Amir Jangoo misses out and Shimron Hetmyer comes into the side. Ends by saying that they will leave their previous loss behind and start fresh and play for pride.
TOSS - West Indies have won the toss and will BOWL first.
Final showdown awaits - With clear weather expected at Kensington Oval, the stage is set for a captivating series finale. Can West Indies pull off an inspired performance to honor their regional heroes and secure vital points, or will the visiting Blackcaps prove too resilient once more? Stay tuned, the toss is coming up next!
Blackcaps aim to master spin - For New Zealand, the key takeaway from the fourth game is reading quality spin much better in the middle overs. After Gudakesh Motie dismantled their middle order with a sensational five-wicket haul post-rain break, the Kiwi batters must adapt quicker to gripping surfaces rather than letting the host spinners dictate terms. With dynamic all-rounder Daryl Mitchell ruled out due to an injury, the middle order needs Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell to build another solid foundation. Captain Mitchell Santner will expect his side to finish the tour clinical and complete a dominant 4-1 series triumph.
Caribbean side seeks batting stability - West Indies must take massive learnings from that narrow defeat and fix their top order fragility. Slumping to 81 for 6 in the last game made the recovery job far too steep, so the top batters need to display far greater discipline against the tight lines of Matthew Fisher and Mitchell Santner. Bringing in the explosive Shimron Hetmyer could provide much-needed firepower to the middle order. On the field, the team simply cannot afford lapses in coordination like the costly dropped catch late in the previous match, especially when they have the opposition down to their final wicket.
Hello and welcome to Barbados! We are in for the fifth and final ODI between West Indies and New Zealand. While the Blackcaps have already wrapped up the series 3-1 after a thrilling one-wicket victory in the fourth game, there is still immense pride and crucial ODI World Cup qualification points on the line for the home side. The atmosphere in Barbados is filled with emotion as the hosts pay tribute to the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers, who recently passed away in his homeland, while also honoring speedster Kemar Roach for reaching 300 Test wickets.
... MATCH DAY ...
The final chapter - The historic Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, prepares to host the fifth and final ODI of an absorbing series between the West Indies and New Zealand. The Black Caps arrive having already locked up the series with an unassailable 3-1 lead, but the final fixture of any bilateral assignment carries its own distinct competitive weight. For the home side, this match represents a crucial opportunity to fix persistent flaws, reward their loyal supporters with a complete performance, and finish the tour on a high note. For the visitors, the goal is maintaining ruthless standards, testing squad depth, and closing out a successful Caribbean campaign with another commanding victory. A recurring problem - West Indies ran into the same old problem again in the fourth ODI. When it was time to set a target, the batting didn’t just wobble, it collapsed. For the third game in a row, they were bowled out well before batting through their full 50 overs, and for the third straight time they could not even reach 200. Add it up, and it is now five consecutive defeats for them when batting first in this format. The big talking point has been the underwhelming returns from the top and middle order. The starts have often looked promising, but the innings has struggled to hold its shape once a wicket falls. In the second ODI, they moved from 63 without loss to 138 all out. In the third, they slipped from 67 for 1 to 149 for 9. In the fourth and penultimate ODI, they again crashed from 12/0 to 81/6. And zooming in deeper shows their age-old vulnerabilities against spin bowling. So far, in four ODIs, they have lost 24 wickets to spin as opposed to just six versus pace. Captain Shai Hope's series has told two different stories. He announced himself with an unbeaten 87 in the opener. But with three consecutive single-digit scores since then, it is a form slump that couldn't have come at a worse time. Sherfane Rutherford has been in a similar rut, his 40 runs across the series barely registering next to the impact he's shown he's capable of in the past. Yet it hasn't all been gloom. The likes of Ackeem Auguste, Keacy Carty and Amir Jangoo have each given West Indies the bright moments with the bat, even if the collective output keeps letting them down. The bowling has earned its keep - If the batting has been West Indies' recurring nightmare this series, the bowling has quietly been the one department pulling its weight. At Kensington Oval in the fourth ODI, defending a total that had no business being competitive, the attack very nearly pulled off a heist. Gudakesh Motie has been the standout. He followed up a quickfire 41 with the bat by ripping through New Zealand's middle and lower order to claim his maiden ODI five-wicket haul. The pace department has not been passengers either. Alzarri Joseph remains the leader of that group and, fittingly, the most successful fast bowler in the history of this ground, someone who keeps finding a way to be a nuisance. Lennox and Santner call the shots - New Zealand's bowling story this series has really been a two-man spin operation dressed up as a full attack. Jayden Lennox has been transformed from a fringe name into the side's most important bowler. Santner offers a second layer to that same threat, capable of both controlling an innings and breaking one open, as shown by his 2 for 36 in the fourth ODI alongside his captaincy and his match-winning knock. Between them, the two spinners have repeatedly found the cracks in West Indies' middle order that the seamers alone might not have exposed. Behind that spin spearhead, the seam department has done its job without needing to be spectacular. Jacob Duffy and Nathan Smith have complemented the spinners well, maintaining control through the powerplay and at the death, backed by fielding that has been consistently excellent, turning half-chances into wickets and saving runs that matter. Matthew Fisher has offered another seam option when needed, and the depth on the bench gives New Zealand room to rotate personnel now that the series is already won. Rescue acts with the bat - New Zealand haven't so much strolled through this series with the bat as talked their way out of trouble, over and over, with just two fifties across the series - one from Daryl Mitchell in the first ODI and a Chapman masterclass in the fourth. Whatever has bailed them out, it hasn't been authority at the top of the order, it's been composure further down. Chapman built handy stands with Young and Latham before those wickets left New Zealand wobbling again at 77 for 4, and then again sliding from 142 for 4 to 180 for 9. In the previous game, it was Bracewell and Santner who had to steady things and drag them home. Team form (Last 5 completed ODIs, recent first) - WI - LLLWL | NZ - WWWLL. What to expect? For West Indies, the key in the next game will be turning those early platforms into longer partnerships, especially through the top and middle order, so they can bat deeper and post a more competitive score. New Zealand, on the other hand, will look to put out one more disciplined, complete performance to close out the tour unbeaten in this final leg.
