All smiles for Bangladesh - It was Cardiff, 2005, under Habibul Bashar's captaincy, when Bangladesh claimed their first-ever ODI win against Australia. The day when Mohammad Ashraful played a gritty, match-winning knock of 100. It then took them 21 years to win their second. And just around 48 hours later, they have their third. But more importantly, by sealing the series 2-0, they have pulled off a historic bilateral series win over the Aussies, a result that will be cherished for generations in Bangladesh cricket. And now, the third and final ODI presents them the chance to complete a clean sweep against Australia as well. With another ODI series gone in the subcontinent, the Aussies will aim to bounce back and play for pride. They are yet to put on a collective team performance and will look to do so in the 3rd and final ODI which will be played at the same venue, on Sunday, 14th June. The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 5 am GMT. Let's hope rain does not spoil the party and we get a full game that day. Until then, we sign off, only to meet again. Stay safe, cheers!

Athar Ali Khan informs that Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the Bangladeshi captain, is unavailable due to a concussion, and Najmul Hossain Shanto will be taking his place for a few words. On being asked about Mehidy's fitness, Shanto reveals that he looks fine and they will observe him closely. Mentions that he might go to the hospital if needed. On the historic series win, he says it means everything and that words cannot quite do it justice. He calls it an amazing feeling and says the way Bangladesh played throughout showed a lot of courage, adding that the hard work put in over the last few months was aimed at exactly this kind of improvement. Says he is proud to be part of this team. On the collective effort, he says playing as a unit is exactly what they want, with everyone looking to contribute across batting, bowling and fielding in every match. He gives credit to the players on the bench as well, saying they helped a lot, and wants the team to keep doing the little things right and keep improving. On the third ODI, he stresses that it is just as important and that they want to carry the same competitive intent into the next game as well.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - For his outstanding bowling display, Mustafizur Rahman receives the award. He was spotless with the ball and ended up with figures reading 7-2-27-3. Rahman says that he always tries to swing the new ball. Adds that he enjoys bowling with the new ball, and his team required him to bowl at that phase. Ends by saying that his body feels fine, but as a fast bowler, there will always be a few bruises.

The captain of Australia - Josh Inglis reflects on the defeat. Mentions that anytime you lose three wickets that early, it's tough to come back from. Adds that Marnus and Bartlett batted really well and that partnership gave them some hope, although it was still below-par. Inglis reckons that if they got through the first few overs, they could have posted a good total as the wicket was still good to bat on. Notes that it was not as bouncy as the previous game. Admits that he got a start but couldn't make it count. Josh shares that there was enough assistance for the seamers and if they could have nicked 2-3 early, they would have been in the game. He feels that they did well in the middle overs to pick up a few wickets, giving them a sniff towards the end. The Aussie skipper ends by saying that they just need to sharpen up and someone needs to step up with the bat. According to him, Bangladesh have outplayed them in both games.

... Time for the post-match Presentation ...

Not enough on the board - Australia were in dire straits at 81/6 after a top-order collapse that saw three batters depart without scoring, but Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett hauled them back into the contest with a 103-run stand. Bartlett brought up his maiden ODI fifty while Labuschagne ended a 14-innings wait for a half-century in this format, before Taskin Ahmed broke the partnership and struck again off the very next ball. Rain arrived shortly after with Australia on 187/8, and the delay stretched to almost two and a half hours, long enough to ensure Australia would not bat again, trimming the game to 41 overs, with the DLS target of 192 set for Bangladesh.

Held their nerves when it mattered - Bangladesh were always in a comfortable position chasing, though Australia refused to go quietly. Green and Zampa chipped in to keep breaking partnerships and reduce the hosts to 144/5, keeping themselves alive in the contest. But with the finish line in sight and 48 needed from that point, Bangladesh stayed composed, content to tick off singles and doubles without taking any risks. Australia needed wickets but could not create the inroads to apply real pressure. Miraz took a nasty blow to the helmet along the way but stayed completely unfazed, and alongside Towhid Hridoy, he put together an unbeaten 51-run stand to see Bangladesh home and into the history books.

Shanto-Sarkar alliance keep hosts safe - Bangladesh had a mirroring start to their opponents as they lost the first wicket in the very first over. With overcast conditions and the new ball doing its bit, nipping in and away, with the odd one staying low on bounce, the Aussie bowlers did made life difficult for the batters, asking all the tough questions. However, Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto rode some difficult chances and kept the scoreboard ticking along at a good clip. Both formed a crucial and defining 86-run stand before Renshaw fished out Sarkar after a fine knock on comeback, and that breakthrough saw Bangladesh slipping a bit from 86/1 to 98/3 with both set batters dismissed in a rather quick time.

History rewritten in Dhaka - It's a special, special day in the history of Bangladesh cricket. They played their first ODI against Australia back in 1990, and what a journey it has been since. Won their first-ever ODI over them at home a couple of days back, and today, they have conquered the Aussies on home soil to clinch their first-ever ODI series win against Australia. And fittingly, it was skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz who struck the winning runs, doing so after taking a nasty blow to the helmet. A moment Bangladesh will cherish for a long, long time. Delights and smiles all around the Bangladeshi camp, and rightly so. This is also their fourth consecutive ODI series win at home, proving just how dominating they have been on their own soil. For Australia, it has been a trip to forget. Their struggles in the subcontinent show no sign of letting up. A series defeat in Pakistan, and now another loss here on Bangladeshi soil.

SIX! Mehidy Hasan Miraz finishes things off in style! BANGLADESH WIN BY 5 WICKETS (DLS), with 36 balls to spare. Riley Meredith bangs this into the pitch again, on middle and leg. Mehidy gets inside the line of it and hooks it over the fine leg fence for a biggie. Bangladesh also take an unassailable 2-0 lead, winning their first-ever ODI series against the Aussies.

34.51

Hits the deck hard, angling into the body of the batter, Towhid Hridoy flicks it to deep square leg for one.

34.44

FOUR! Gets it through! Back of a length and on middle, Towhid Hridoy gets on top of the bounce and swats it towards mid-wicket. The fielder gets low but lets it through as the ball races to the fence for a boundary. Bangladesh just one hit away from making history.

34.31

Fuller and on middle, angling in, Mehidy Hasan Miraz steps across and clips it through square leg for a run.

34.21

Short of a length and on middle, Towhid Hridoy pulls it crisply but staight towards deep square leg for a single.

34.16

SIX! Makes the most of the Free Hit. Bangladesh are a couple of hits away from a famous series win now. Speared on a length, on the pads. Towhid Hridoy makes good use of the pace, nails the pick-up shot and whips it over deep backward square leg for a biggie.

34.12nb

Sharp short ball climbing at the shoulder height of the batter. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is hurried on the pull shot but gets a top edge towards backward square leg for a single. Oh, it's called a No Ball as there were three fielders behind square on the leg side.

Australia select their preferred ball that will be used for the rest of the innings. Also, Riley Meredith replaces Adam Zampa. Once again, the zinger bail is not working, and the umpires wait for the replacement. Not for the first time in this game. The issue has been resolved and we are good to go again.

Excellent running! Good length on the middle stump, Hridoy stays put and turns it wide of square leg and they show good urgency to hustle back for the second run. Matthew Short slides to stop the ball and throws it to the keeper. Inglis breaks the stumps in a flash but Hridoy is comfortably in by then.

33.54lb

FOUR LEG BYES! Runs away and Bangladesh inch closer to script history! A poor delivery from Ellis. Short of a length, on the pads. Towhid Hridoy misses the flick and the ball ricochets off the thigh pad before running behind to the deep fine leg fence.

The physio comes in for the mandatory concussion check. He will now ask a few questions to Mehidy Hasan Miraz as per protocol. Not good signs as Mehidy is down on the ground, feeling really uneasy. The stretcher comes out as the reserve players and medical staff surround the Bangladesh skipper. The Australian team doctor also comes in to offer his expertise. Tense faces all around the stadium, but hopefully it is nothing serious. Positive visuals now as we see Mehidy Hasan Miraz back on his feet, communicating with his partner, and also changing his pair of gloves. All good to resume now.

33.41lb

Ouch! Surprise bumper on the bodyline, and it springs up from the pitch. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is completely taken aback as he takes his eyes off the ball while attempting the pull shot, but is beaten. The ball smashes hard onto the side of the helmet and lobs over and to the left of the backward point fielder for a leg bye. A concussion test will follow for Miraz and he looks shaken by that proper blow.

33.30

Swing and a miss! Length-delivery outside the off stump. Mehidy Hasan Miraz lines up to cut it square on the off side, but the ball goes over his angled bat.

33.20

At pace, full and on off, Mehidy Hasan Miraz tries to push it away on the off side, but the ball nips in, ekes an inside edge to mid-wicket.

33.10

The slower one from back of the hand, on a length, on off. Mehidy Hasan Miraz covers the stumps, gets behind the line and blocks it down the pitch.

Powerplay 3! Now, five fielders are allowed outside the inner ring till the 41st over, which will be the last over of this game as per revised conditions. Also, Nathan Ellis is back on.

Doing it with singles. Floated up, full and outside off. Mehidy Hasan Miraz presents full face of the bat and drives it along the grass to deep point for a run. 4 runs off the over. 8-0-42-1 so far for Zampa.

32.51

Drops short on middle, Towhid Hridoy hangs deep in the crease and tucks it to the square leg region for another run.

32.41

Tap and run! Good running. Full and flat, on off, Mehidy Hasan Miraz lunges forward with a giant stride and eases it between cover and point for a quick single.

The batters are taking in some fluids, while Towhid Hridoy also puts some magic spray on his left wrist. We are good to go again.

32.30

Unplayable stuff! The in-dipper on a fuller length. It lands and spins sharply away from the batter. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is sucked on the front foot to block but the ball spins past the bat's face and Josh Inglis is quick enough to whip the bails off. Miraz's back leg never lifted or got dragged out of the crease though.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are already out there in the middle now. Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar are the two openers for Bangladesh. Xavier Bartlett to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Hosts seize control despite late resistance - Bangladesh's seamers were simply outstanding under overcast conditions, with Taskin Ahmed starting proceedings with a wicket-maiden before Mustafizur Rahman bettered that with a double-wicket maiden and soon added a third scalp as well. The pressure created by the quicks was then capitalised on by Tanvir Islam, whose two wickets left Australia reeling at 81/6 and firmly on the ropes. It could have been even better had Mosaddek Hossain taken a run-out chance to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne early, but the Australian made Bangladesh pay. Alongside Xavier Bartlett, he launched a spirited counterattack, frustrating the hosts who would have been eyeing a total well below 150. It was Taskin who returned to break the stand and struck again on the next ball to restore Bangladesh's grip on the contest. Rain then intervened, but the hosts will feel they remain in a strong position after an excellent bowling effort. Join us in a bit for the second essay.

Rescue act - With Australia in deep trouble, an out-of-form Marnus Labuschagne, pushed down to No. 7, produced a determined response. Alongside Xavier Bartlett, he weathered the storm and mixed caution with aggression beautifully, ensuring the scoreboard kept moving while shutting the door on further damage. Their magnificent 103-run partnership transformed the innings, with Bartlett bringing up his maiden ODI fifty and Labuschagne ending a 14-innings wait for a half-century. Just as Australia looked set for a strong finish, Bartlett and Adam Zampa fell off successive deliveries, leaving Marnus with plenty still to do. Soon after, the rain arrived and forced the players off the field, with Australia reaching 187/8 after a remarkable recovery.

Early chaos leaves Australia reeling - It was a nightmare start for Australia, and one that felt all too familiar. Matthew Short fell in the very first over yet again, registering his third consecutive duck in ODIs and extending Australia's unwanted run to four straight opening stands worth zero. Things quickly went from bad to worse as Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw also departed without scoring, leaving the visitors shell-shocked at 0/3. When another wicket fell at 25/4, Australia were staring down the barrel. Josh Inglis and Cameron Green briefly calmed the nerves with a 43-run stand, but their dismissals in quick succession left the innings in disarray once more, with the score reading a precarious 81/6.

11.08 am GMT update - Into the chase - So Australia's innings with the bat is done for good, and Bangladesh will come out to chase. We are hearing that play will resume at 11.15 am GMT. And it will be a truncated game, reduced to 41 overs. Revised target for Bangladesh - 192 runs (DLS method). As we wait for the chase to get underway, let's take a quick tour of what happened in the first innings.

10.47 am GMT update - Inspection underway - Out come the two umpires once again to have the second inspection, accompanied by the chief of the ground staff. There appears to be some concern over a few damp patches in the outfield. They now walk toward the bowler's mark to check the same. The stumps have been erected now, and the pitch looks to be in good shape as well. Josh Inglis has wandered out in his slippers to have a word with the umpires, taking a moment to check the dampness of the field for himself while the conversation is ongoing. Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz has also made his way to the middle. And now, he chats with one of the umpires as Inglis heads back towards the dugout to speak with the head coach, Andrew McDonald. Miraz has gathered his players in a huddle and is passing on the message, with his gestures suggesting batting. Safe to say that Bangladesh will be coming out to chase. We shall have the revised playing conditions and target updated soon. So do stick around.

10.39 am GMT update - Next inspection in 5 minutes - Several Bangladeshi players are out in the middle, with a couple of them taking throwdowns near the boundary while the others keep themselves loose with some keepie-uppies on the sidelines. So that virtually means that Bangladesh will now come out to chase directly. The drainage system is quite decent at the Shere Bangla Stadium, as conditions have dried up considerably. Stick around, as we might have an official resumption update anytime now.

10.23 am GMT update - Covers are coming off - The sun is flirting with the clouds, trying to peek through. And just like that, the centre cover has been peeled off the pitch, with almost all the covers now off the field. Umpire Ahsan Raza has walked over to the Bangladeshi dugout while his colleague is in conversation with Australia captain Josh Inglis. Looks like the revised playing conditions and resumption time are being conveyed to both sides. Okay, the official word is that there will be another inspection at 10.45 am GMT. That is, in around 20 minutes from now. Meanwhile, work is in full swing to dry out the outfield.

10.17 am GMT update - It's getting brighter - More promising visuals from the middle. The umpires have now strolled out to have a closer look at the conditions. They are now having a detailed chat with the chief of the ground staff, just near the pitch, which is still under the protection of the white sheets. Now, they all talk among themselves in a conference and are pointing toward something, not quite sure what it is. Meanwhile, the Super Sopper is deployed as well. It is doing the rounds to soak up all the residual water on the field.

10.09 am GMT update - Rain has stopped - Some movement in the centre at last. The ground staff are making their way out towards the covers, which is an encouraging sign. Looks like the rain has stopped. There are no umbrellas out among the ones who are out there, and the crowd that had taken shelter is filing back into the stands. The groundsmen are working hard to remove the water from the sheets by taking them back and forth.

9.55 am GMT update - Down to a drizzle - Some better visuals coming in. The rain has slowed down considerably now, but it continues to stay overcast with a light drizzle. It's been more than an hour since players went off. Let's keep our fingers crossed for the rain to stop completely. But one thing's for sure, when play resumes, it will be a truncated game as the outfield will need quite some time and effort to dry up. And then hope that the rain does not return again.

9.27 am GMT update - No relief yet - Nothing new to report as it keeps bucketing down in Dhaka. Almost the entire outfield is now drenched with no signs of the rain letting up. Umm, not entirely incorrect to assume that Australia's batting innings is done for good now and play might resume with Bangladesh's chase. We might also start losing overs soon. Stick around for the next updates.

9.07 am GMT update - Not looking good - Rain is getting heavier and heavier, and more concerningly, water is seeping through the covers and spilling out onto the unprotected outfield. The intensity is so much that the ground can barely be seen in the broadcast. If and when the rain stops, the ground staff will need to clear the water off the covers and from the outfield before they can even think about removing them. The outfield, being unprotected, will have soaked up a fair bit of water by then, so it will need considerable time to drain and dry out.

8.59 am GMT update - Heavy rain now! It's hammering down in Dhaka and most of the members of the ground staff have headed back to take shelter. Several tyres have been placed on the covers to stop them from being blown away in the wind. It's not looking good right now with the rain picking up by the minute, so fair to say, this is going to be a long delay.

8.53 am GMT update - Some activity out there! Looks like the rain has eased, if not completely stopped. But wait, not so fast. The ground staff are peeling the covers back, splashing the water out, and then putting them right back where they were. Not out of the woods just yet as the center cover remains firmly placed on the pitch and squares. We can see the Super Sopper doing the rounds in the outfield, though.

8.45 am GMT update - More covers have been brought on as we speak and it is still raining in Dhaka. The ground staff can be seen hovering around the covers, keeping a close eye on the conditions. The overhead conditions do not look pleasing as of now, so we could be in for a lenghty delay. Let's hope the skies clear up soon. Stay tuned.

A strong Aussie fightback - FYI, Australia were completely on the mat early doors. Being reduced to 0/3, and then 25/4 before sliding down further to 81/6. But after that, Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett put together a valiant recovery alliance. Bangladesh have just managed to make inroads when that 103-run partnership was beginning to threaten them. But to be fair, the Aussies have done well to manage Nahid Rana this time around. He ripped through the back of their batting in the first ODI, but they have handled him with a lot more caution today, keeping him wicketless so far.

8.36 am GMT update - Rain stops play! Oh, no. The rain has picked up, and the umpires have requested the players to walk off the field. It is absolutely pouring down now and it has gotten very dark overhead. The ground staff are quick to get the covers out, though the wind makes it a bit of a battle to get them down. They get there in the end, with the pitch and the squares protected.

Hits the deck hard, angling into the body of the batter, Towhid Hridoy flicks it to deep square leg for one.

SIX! Makes the most of the Free Hit. Bangladesh are a couple of hits away from a famous series win now. Speared on a length, on the pads. Towhid Hridoy makes good use of the pace, nails the pick-up shot and whips it over deep backward square leg for a biggie.

So a successful over for Australia. But they will need to keep pressing on the opposition and keep chipping away. Bangladesh need 104 runs from 150 balls. And we have another issue with the zinger bails at the batting end. It's not lighting up. The fourth umpire walks out with a new one and gets it replaced. It works fine and we are all set to resume.

OUT! TAKEN! Matt Renshaw gets the crucial breakthrough for Australia. He bowls this slower through the air, full and around off. Soumya Sarkar changes his stance for the reverse sweep but due to the extra bounce, the ball catches the back of his bat. It flies towards first slip, where Xavier Bartlett reacts quickly to his left to take a sharp catch. Bangladesh are 86/2, chasing 192 runs.

Sarkar bails out just when Renshaw was about to deliver. Seemingly got put off by some movement around the sightscreen. Renshaw shows a bit of frustration but will have to reload.

Soumya Sarkar has used his experience well on his return to the side, while Najmul Hossain Shanto has continued his rich vein in form. Both batters are looking in great touch and will be eager to convert their starts now. Australia are in desperate need of wickets and they need them in bunches, as that is the only way they can make a game out of this one.

Missing the leg stump! Fractionally fuller on the leg stump line, curving back in. Najmul Hossain Shanto's head falls over while attempting the flick and the ball thuds the front pad. Once again, the appeal goes around for LBW and this time, the finger is raised. Australians are joyous but Shanto has gone upstairs almost instantly for a review. Flat line on the UltraEdge and the Ball Tracking shows the impact is on umpire's call and the ball is projected to miss the leg stump by a fair bit. So the on-field decision is overturned and Shanto survives. What an action-packed first over! Bartlett starts with a wicket-maiden.

Is that out? Najmul Hossain Shanto has taken a review for an LBW decision, given Out on the field. UltraEdge comes up with a flat line while Ball Tracking shows it to be missing the leg stump. Good review from Shanto and the on-field call it overturned.

Short of a length and outside off, Nathan Ellis slashes at it and slices it over point for a couple of runs.

40.40

No hat-trick for Taskin Ahmed! He bowls this on a good length an don middle, jags back in a long way. Nathan Ellis misses his flick and gets hit on the pads as the ball lobs towards point. Massive appeal from the entire Bangladesh unit, but the umpire remains unmoved.

And just like that, 184/6 becomes 184/8 for Australia. Taskin Ahmed is on a Hat Trick now. Nathan Ellis is the next batter in at number 10.

40.3W

OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! Taskin Ahmed with the double strike and he is on a hat-trick now. He serves this full again and on off, gets it to tail back in sharply once more. Adam Zampa plants his front foot out to push it away but fails to judge the inward movement. He leaves a big gap between bat and pad and the ball goes through to crash onto the stumps. A golden duck for Zampa.

Fair to say, that was probably the first loose shot played by Bartlett in such a fine batting display. Probably tried to up the ante but that was a really good ball from Taskin. Adam Zampa walks in at number 9.

40.2W

OUT! BOWLED'EM! Taskin Ahmed strikes and breaks the 103-run partnership. Bangladesh needed this and now they will look to wrap things up quickly. Taskin goes full and straight, on middle. Xavier Bartlett clears his front leg and has a wild hoick across the line. The ball moves late off the seam and goes past the inside edge to shatter the stumps behind. A solid knock from Bartlett comes to an end and Australia are 184/7 now.

40.10

Fuller one and on middle, Xavier Bartlett drills it straight back to the bowler.

Powerplay 3! Now, five fielders are allowed outside the circle till the last over of the innings. This has been a fantastic fightback from Australia, and now they have a platform to put up a competitive total on the board.

FIFTY FOR XAVIER BARTLETT! His maiden ODI half-century and he gets there in just 44 balls. 37.50

Pushed fuller on middle, Xavier leans on and eases it to the bowler's right.

37.41

FIFTY FOR LABUSCHAGNE! A fine, fine knock from him under pressure. He has been under the scanner for quite a while now, but he has responded to the situation very responsibly. That's his 13th ODI fifty! Full ball, outside off, Marnus lunges ahead and drives the ball down to the long off fielder for a single. He has taken his sweet time, but that's what the situation demanded from him. He gets to his milestone in 75 balls. But knows that the job is not done as yet and will look to bat throughout the innings.

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! A soft dismissal, and Cameron Green's resistance is broken. Tanvir Islam bowls this slower through the air, shortish and on middle, just holds up in the surface a bit. Green moves back and pushes at it with hard hands and ends up chipping it tamely back to the bowler. The ball dies on Islam, but he does well to get low and take a sharp catch on his follow-through. And again! Another appeal, but it's half-hearted and the finger stays down. A little bit wobble seam, nips away from a good length, in the channel. Marnus Labuschagne is squared up and is beaten past the outside edge by a kitten-whisker. This is spot-on bowling.

So close, yet so far! Skiddy delivery, just around the off stump with a decent lift off the deck. Josh Inglis springs out of the crease and perhaps tries to loft it down the ground, but the ball lands and spins away. Skews off the outer half of the bat and it sails straight down the throat of Tanzid Hasan stationed at deep cover. Hasan comes a few steps forward, crouches and takes a simple catch. Drinks Break! Bangladesh are in the driving seat right now after having bossed up the Powerplay through Taskin and Mustafizur. And they would expect their second line of attack to keep the pressure sustained on the tourists by picking regular wickets and preventing partnerships from building. Josh Inglis, the Aussie skipper, has done pretty well so far to steady one end, while Green is growing gradually in confidence as well. This pair will have to bat long and deep enough to prevent a slide, though, and they have a gruelling middle over phase awaiting to deal with the spin. The pitch has been good for bowling, sure enough, but if the batters take time on it, runs are in the offing. Nahid Rana to continue after the break. 3-0-19-0 so far.

There is an appeal for the caught behind, and up goes the finger. Connolly knows he has edged that and does not even bother to take the review. Australia lose both openers with nothing on the board.

Some start for Bangladesh through Taskin. And it will be Mustafizur Rahman to bowl from the opposite end.

Appeal for LBW, but turned down! Short of a length and on middle, nips back in sharply again. Josh Inglis gets hurried and misses his flick to get hit high on the pads. Probably going over and down the leg stump as well.

0.50

On a length and on off, Josh Inglis gets half-forward and blocks it out.

That's three ducks in a row for Matthew Short in ODIs now. Bangladesh are off to a flying start. In walks the skipper, Josh Inglis, at number 3.

OUT! BOWLED'EM! Taskin Ahmed draws first blood, and this is exactly what happened in the first game as well. Taskin lands this just back of a length and on the fifth stump line, but gets it to jag back in a long way. Matthew Short watches it through and offers no shot at it, but hears the death rattle as the ball crashes onto the off pole. Australia are 0/1 for the fourth time in a row in ODIs.

0.30

Hits the deck hard, on middle, angles it in again. Matthew Short fends it off the inner half of the bat to the leg side.

0.20

Good-length delivery, just around off, holds its line, Matthew Short lifts his hands and lets it go to the keeper.

0.10

Taskin Ahmed starts with a full delivery, on middle, angling in. Matthew Short drives it with the full face of the bat towards mid on.

All set to get underway in Dhaka for the 2nd ODI. The sun is out with a bit of cloud cover, and the conditions are pretty humid out there. Now then, the two umpires have made their way out. The Bangladeshi players spread out of the huddle and take their respective fielding spots. Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly are the two Aussie openers. A couple of slips in place and Taskin Ahmed is all set to steam in for the first over. Short to take the strike. Let's play says the umpire, here we go...

Let's hear it from Nathan Ellis - On what surprised him the most in the first ODI, he chuckles and says it was the heat. But on a serious note, he points to the pace in the pitch as the real standout. He also notes that conditions were slow and turning a lot more the last time Australia were here, and stresses that adjusting to what is on offer is key. He acknowledges Bangladesh played really well in the first game and says Australia are looking to turn things around. On what has worked for him in the subcontinent, he points to adaptability, saying he just wants to do whatever the team needs from him. He notes that his role has already shifted from Pakistan to Bangladesh, where he is taking the new ball, something he has not done much of in his career. On the difference between the two sides in the first ODI, he says there was not a lot separating them and feels it came down to the catches Australia dropped, adding that taking their chances today will be crucial.

PITCH REPORT - Athar Ali Khan notes the match has shifted from pitch number four to pitch number six. He observes good grass cover on the surface and notes some cracks, but they are not a concern. Though he flags a split around the four to six metre mark as something bowlers will look to target. He stresses that bowlers will need to hit a good line and length, and if they can pitch it in the right areas, they can trouble the batters. But he feels batters who are willing to spend time out in the middle will score runs. Despite that, he expects it to be a good batting pitch and reckons 270 should be a competitive score.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar (In place of Saif Hassan), Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das (WK), Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (C), Tanvir Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana.

Australia (Playing XI) - Matthew Short, Cooper Connolly, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (C/WK), Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Matt Renshaw, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Riley Meredith (In place of Liam Scott).

The skipper of Bangladesh - Mehidy Hasan Miraz says that it was an excellent last match. Adds that it is a great opportunity for them to create more history and everyone is really excited. Mentions that they had good partnerships with the ball, but they need more partnerships with the bat in the middle overs. Miraz informs that they have made one change with Soumya Sarkar playing in place of Saif Hassan. Says that Saif needs a rest and Soumya brings a lot of experience to the team.

The captain of Australia - Josh Inglis, on what they are looking to rectify from the last match, stresses that they need to improve in all facets of the game, describing it as a matter of small margins. About the changes, Inglis informs that Riley Meredith comes into the squad and he replaces Liam Scott. When asked about the reason for that change, Josh mentions that they will get some more airspeed from him. He also notes that the pitch has shown good pace and bounce in the last match and believes that Riley can have a lot to offer with his pace.

TOSS - Australia have won the toss and choose to BAT first.

Weather watch - Despite a few rain concerns in the forecast, the outlook is encouraging at the moment in Dhaka. The sun is out, preparations are well underway, and the players are going through their warm-up routines ahead of the game. There are no immediate weather worries, which means the toss is expected to take place on time and we should be set for a prompt start. Hopefully, the conditions stay this way and allow for an uninterrupted contest.

Survival mode activated - Josh Inglis has been handed a difficult job. Leading an Australian side missing several first-choice players, the stand-in captain has been their brightest spark in sub-continent conditions. But around him, the support has crumbled. The top order keeps falling cheaply with Marnus Labuschagne stuck in a form slump, and dropped chances in the opener have made an already hard job nearly impossible. Nathan Ellis has been effective with his variations but needs support from the others. Australia have the talent to bounce back, but they need everyone to step up, starting now. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.

Confidence overflowing - Bangladesh are playing with a freedom that comes from winning. The return of an old hero, Mosaddek Hossain sparked the first game, their young pace sensation, Nahid Rana has been breathing fire at home, and Najmul Hossain Shanto is leading from the front with the bat. The bowling attack has options, the batting order has found its spine, and the crowd is behind every ball. Another performance like the first game, and this series is theirs.

Mirpur braces for another battle - The Shere Bangla National Stadium is buzzing again. After ending a 21-year wait in the series opener, Bangladesh find themselves on the cusp of something special, a fourth straight home ODI series win. Australia, depleted and desperate, must win to keep the contest alive. The Tigers have tasted blood. Now they want the whole meal.

... MATCH DAY ...

21-year drought broken - The Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur witnessed something special in the opener, something that had only happened once before in 21 years. Bangladesh beat Australia in an ODI, snapping a streak that stretched all the way back to Cardiff in 2005. That victory wasn't just a win, it was a statement. The Tigers are now on the verge of a fourth consecutive home ODI series triumph, having already dispatched the West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand in this golden run, and every victory strengthens their chances of direct qualification for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027. For Australia, missing several first-choice players, the equation is brutal, win or lose the series. The comeback king - The story of the first ODI was written by a man who had been written off. Mosaddek Hossain walked back into the national team after nearly four years in the wilderness, and he walked out of the Shere Bangla Stadium as the hero. Walking in at a precarious 140 for 4, he stayed till the end, finishing unbeaten on 86, his best-ever ODI score. A 75-run stand with Towhid Hridoy that defused the Australian attack. And then, because one act wasn't enough, he chipped in with two wickets. Man of the Match on a comeback after four years. Scriptwriters couldn't have dreamed it better. Rana turning up the heat - While Mosaddek provided the brains, Nahid Rana provided the terror. The young tearaway has been a revelation at home, consistently clocking speeds over 150kph and instilling genuine fear in batters. His numbers are staggering - 20 wickets in his last seven ODIs at this venue, including a couple of five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul in the first game itself. He ripped through Australia's middle order, removing Josh Inglis, Alex Carey and debutant Liam Scott in a devastating burst of pace and bounce, three wickets that turned the chase into a procession. Stability at the top, concerns in the middle - But Bangladesh are not a two-man show. Tanzid Hasan has been in excellent touch, scoring a fifty in the first game, though questions remain over his opening partner, Saif Hassan, who has struggled with consistency. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has been on a dream run, two fifties and a hundred in his last three matches, providing the anchor Bangladesh need at the top. The middle order, however, remains a concern. Litton Das and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz have not been among the runs, leaving Towhid Hridoy, arguably Bangladesh's best ODI batter since 2024, and the returning Mosaddek to do the heavy lifting. It was their 75-run stand that rescued Bangladesh from a wobble, without it, the total would have been far lower and the game far closer. All-round bowling attack taking shape - The pace attack is led by the experienced duo of Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, their variations and cutters perfectly suited to home conditions. But the real X-factor is Rana, whose raw pace adds a dimension Bangladesh have rarely possessed. Mehidy leads the spin attack alongside Tanvir Islam and Mosaddek, giving them a nice mix of orthodox and slingy options. The trade-off, however, is that playing all these bowlers means sacrificing a batter, which places even more responsibility on the top and middle order to deliver consistently. That remains Bangladesh's only lingering concern, but against an under-strength and struggling Australian side, it may not matter. Inglis holding it together for Australia - Josh Inglis finds himself in an unenviable position. Leading an Australian side missing Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh (still recovering from injury), Travis Head (granted leave for personal reasons), Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, the wicketkeeper-batter has been asked to captain a team in transition on unfamiliar surfaces. But if anyone has the credentials for the sub-continent, it's Inglis. He was Australia's leading run-scorer in the Pakistan series with 129 runs in three games, including a couple of fifties, and looked fluent again in the first ODI before falling to a Rana thunderbolt. His presence at the crease is the one thing giving the visitors any sense of security. Australia's top order under fire - Around Inglis, however, the support has crumbled. The opening partnership is in freefall, having now registered three consecutive 0-run opening stands in ODIs, a staggering statistic that leaves the chase dead before it can even begin. Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly make up an attacking pair on paper, but they need to start converting starts. At No. 3, Marnus Labuschagne's struggles have become desperate. Three single-digit scores in his last four innings, his highest just 19. A batter of his class doesn't lose his touch overnight, but in this form and on these pitches, he looks a walking wicket. Cameron Green played a gritty hand for an unbeaten 52, showing the composure that makes him a future star, and Alex Carey brought all his experience to bear with 47. But Matt Renshaw and the rest need to step up if Australia are to challenge the hosts. Searching for control with the ball - On the bowling front, it's a new-look pace attack. Nathan Ellis has been excellent leading the line, his superb variations troubling even the set batters, and he picked up a three-wicket haul in the first game, which made it 10 scalps in the last four games. Liam Scott made his debut and grabbed a couple of wickets, a moment to remember, but Xavier Bartlett needs to take on much more responsibility. The bigger concern, however, is Adam Zampa. Australia's premier spinner has looked out of sorts, picking up just one wicket in the entire Pakistan series and failing to strike in the opener. To make matters worse, part-timer Matt Renshaw has actually outperformed him in the spin department, a damning reflection of Zampa's current form and confidence. Margins that decide matches - And then there is the fielding. It wasn't as if Australia didn't create chances. They did. But they dropped three of them, three crucial chances and every single batter Australia put down made them pay handsomely. In conditions like the ones typical of Mirpur, those margins are unforgivable. With Ben Dwarshuis and Matthew Kuhnemann waiting on the wings, Australia may be forced to ring in changes for the second ODI. But no matter who they bring in, if they don't hold their catches, the result will likely be the same. Weather adds a twist in Mirpur - The first game was played under overcast skies, conditions that would typically have suited the Australian seamers. But Bangladesh simply played better cricket. The weather didn't end up affecting the contest significantly, except for one cruel moment. With just 7.4 overs left in the chase and Bangladesh needing a single wicket to seal the victory, lightning and rain forced the players off the field. The result was decided on DLS, depriving the Tigers of that euphoric winning moment on the field. The weather is expected to be similar for the second ODI, overcast, with a chance of rain, but hopefully it stays away long enough for a full contest. If it does, the pitch at Mirpur should continue to offer assistance to both seamers early and spinners later, making for another fascinating battle. Form (Last 5 completed ODIs, recent first) - BAN - WWWLW | AUS - LLWLL. Final word - In Mirpur, where pressure builds quicker than runs, this contest feels set for another tight finish between two sides refusing to blink. Bangladesh have momentum, belief, and a home record that keeps growing sharper with every series, while Australia carry the weight of expectation and the urgency of a team that knows one more slip could end it all. With pace likely to dictate terms and moments in the field deciding more than pure batting power, this isn't just about skill anymore, it's about nerve. If Bangladesh hold their shape in the middle overs, history could tilt their way again, but if Australia find control early, the series could suddenly swing back into life.
