Commentary
Welcome back for SRH's response with the bat. Hardik Pandya leads his men out to the middle as the players of Mumbai Indians take their spots on the field. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head are the two openers for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. And it will be Trent Boult to bowl the opening over of the chase. So it's Boult vs Abhishek first up. Here we go!
... THE RUN CHASE ...
A mountain to climb - Well, if MI unleashed a 'Jacks Ryan' show in the first inning, get ready for 'Travishek' to take the centre stage in the run chase. No target is big enough when this deadly duo gets going well. They have chased down some mammoth totals before and will fancy their chances on a batting paradise like this. For Mumbai, the math is simple, get these two blokes out early in the restrictions and take the lead in the game. How much role will the dew play? It will be interesting to watch. Back in a bit with the chase.
MI's impactful opener is up for a chat - Will Jacks says he is happy to be back and credits the pitch for allowing both batters to play with freedom. He calls Rickelton's innings a fine one. Jacks points out that Ryan came in as a late replacement after Quinton de Kock fell ill, and feels that kind of last-minute call-up can sometimes work in a batter's favour. On the surface, Jacks describes Wankhede as a batting paradise in his experience and acknowledges that MI have their work cut out despite posting a big total. On the bowling plans, Jacks notes that the Sunrisers bowled slow bouncers effectively, making it hard to hit even during the Powerplay. He admits that high scores have been chased in this tournament and stresses that MI will need to bowl well to defend it.
Rickelton's century powers MI to a huge score - Eshan Malinga, amid all the onslaught, bowled with real control and impressed yet again, finishing with 1/30 in 4 overs. His spell brought some discipline to MI's middle overs. But Rickelton was in a different zone altogether. He reached his maiden IPL century with absolute fluency and stayed unbeaten on 123. And with Hardik promoting himself ahead of Tilak to maximum effect, the two kept squeezing out big overs from the other end to push MI towards 243/5.
Intent with positive ball striking - This is exactly what Mumbai Indians had been missing all season. Rickelton and Jacks arrived as a fresh opening pair and wasted no time announcing themselves, matching each other shot for shot and hitting with real ferocity to give MI a flying start. The bowlers found no grip, no movement, nothing to work with, and the two simply feasted on anything in the slot. Their effort produced a 78-run Powerplay, the second-best MI have managed this season. Nitish Reddy eventually prised them apart, breaking a 93-run opening stand, and the wicket of SKY shortly after saw MI slip from 93/0 to 110/2. But Rickelton refused to let the momentum die. He kept swinging, brought up a well-deserved half-century, and kept the hosts firmly afloat.
A Rickelton special Wankhede - The T20 landscape has shifted so dramatically that even 230-240 was being discussed as potentially insufficient on a surface this good. But Rickelton's last over assault has pushed MI beyond 240, which gets them back with some momentum at halfway. And according to the on-air commentator, Harsha Bhogle, Rickelton has now mounted the highest individual score by any MI batter in the history of IPL. So it was indeed a special knock from the MI opener just when his side is desperate for a win. Sunrisers bowled well in patches but never managed to string together a sustained quiet phase, and ultimately paid the price for it. They conceded 41 runs in the last 4 overs and might feel they have given away a few too many towards the end.

FOUR! A boundary to finish the innings! Praful Hinge bowls a slower bumper, around leg, Ryan Rickelton looks to pull it away but gets a top edge just over the keeper's reach to the fine leg fence for four runs. Mumbai Indians end up on 243/5.
SIX! Connects well this time! Praful Hinge serves another full toss, but does not get away with it. Ryan Rickelton backs away a bit and smacks it over the bowler's head for half a dozen more.
Run out chance...missed! Another low full toss, on off, Robin Minz swings at it but gets an inside edge onto his pads as the ball drops dead on the pitch. Ryan Rickelton calls him for the run, and Hinge runs forward as well towards the ball. However, he fails to pick up the ball and breaks the stumps with just his hands. Rickelton was a goner if Praful grabbed the ball cleanly.
Tilak falls right after changing his bat. Last night, we saw Shreyas Iyer too, getting dismissed after a change of willow. Robin Minz walks in at number 7.
OUT! TAKEN! Change of bats does not work for Tilak Varma. Praful Hinge serves this fuller and just around off. Tilak extends his arms to get under it and targets the straighter boundary, but gets it more from the bottom half of the bat. It goes up in the air towards long off, where Heinrich Klaasen moves to his left and takes a safe reverse cup catch. MI are 232/5, three balls left.
Change of bat for Tilak Varma. The reserve player from the MI dugout rushes out with multiple options for Tilak to select from. He picks one and it passes the gauge test. Good to resume again.
A low full toss, on off, pretty hard to put those away. Ryan Rickelton fails to make the most of it and slices it towards long off for a single. A tired-looking shot!
Follows the batter, serves this full and angling into the leg side, Ryan Rickelton using his wrists whips it wide of deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.
That was a spectacular penultimate over from Sakib. A single-digit over is like gold dust at this moment. Praful Hinge (3-0-40-1) will wrap it up. How many can MI get out of the last six legal balls? Let's see. Rickelton looks a bit tired, but the halt has come at a good time for him to take a bit of a breather. SRH use their impact sub. Aniket Verma comes in and Sakib Hussain has been subbed out. Good to continue now.

Despite the first-ball six, just 8 runs off the over and a wicket as well! Sakib Hussain hits the length hard again, takes pace off, this one keeps a bit low as well. Tilak Varma has a swipe across the line but misses it.
Short of a length and around off, slower as well, Ryan Rickelton pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a run.
Back of a length and on middle, Tilak Varma heaves it off the inner half of the bat to deep square leg for a single.
Good comeback! Sakib Hussain sees the batter move across and bangs this hard into the pitch, on middle and leg. Tilak Varma looks to hook it over fine leg but makes no contact.
SIX! That is some way to get going! Sakib Hussain misses his mark and bowls this full and around middle. Tilak Varma stays deep inside his crease, gets under it and clobbers it over the long on fence for a biggie.
Skipper Hardik goes out after a breezy knock. In walks Tilak Varma at number 6.
OUT! CAUGHT! Sakib Hussain with a key wicket for his team, and at a crucial time as well. He goes fuller and wide outside off. Hardik Pandya arches his back, trying to hit it through the line but loses his shape a bit while playing the shot. He fails to get the elevation, and the ball flies flat and straight towards long off, where Heinrich Klaasen pouches it safely. A perfect illustration of the fielder not moving an inch. End of a quick cameo from the MI skipper, and they are 221/4 now.
Righto, 2 overs to go. Cummins is bowled out, Malinga has just wrapped up his spell. So highly likely, the two rookies will be finishing it off with the ball. It will be Sakib Hussain who will bowl the penultimate over. 2-0-31-0 so far.

Finishes the over well! Hard length and around off, Hardik Pandya flat-bats it down to long off for just one more. Eshan Malinga ends yet another impressive spell with figures of 4-0-29-1.
Well bowled! Eshan Malinga executes the wide yorker perfectly, outside off, the ball goes past even before Hardik Pandya gets his bat down.
Full toss, on middle, Ryan Rickelton cannot get under it and mistimes the lofted shot down to long on for another run.
WIDE! Tries the bouncer, on middle, Ryan Rickelton hops up to pull it away but misses. The umpire calls it a wide for height. However, Eshan Malinga convinces his skipper to take the review. The replay with the Ball Tracker shows that the ball is passing well over the head of Rickelton. UltraEdge also shows no spike. The on-field decision stands. SRH lose a review.
Short of a length and outside off, Hardik Pandya slaps it to sweeper cover for a run.
Commentary
Signing off from a run-fest - That brings us to the end of this run-fest, where yet again a daunting total has been chased down with ease, as Sunrisers Hyderabad piled more misery on Mumbai Indians. We now move to Ahmedabad, where Gujarat Titans take on the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 30th April, Thursday. It will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), and as you know, you can join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
The victorious skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad - Pat Cummins, on being asked whether he ever thought that 245 was a tough target, says that it is always a challenge at the start, but given the strength of their batting lineup and the quality of the pitch, he believed the target was definitely chaseable. On the opening duo of Abhishek and Head, he praises the openers for their fearless approach, noting that on a good surface with their range of shots, he says he is glad not to be bowling against them. Cummins is also highly impressed with the youngsters, highlighting that Salil Arora hasn’t had many opportunities this season but stood out during the pre-season. He credits the coaching staff for instilling a fearless attitude in the young players, adding that they may not even realise how good they are. On the concern as a skipper to concede a lot of runs he admits the challenge, saying the game has evolved significantly. Says targets that were once difficult, like 200, are now more achievable, with teams capable of chasing at 12 runs per over. He underlines the need for the bowling unit to reset expectations accordingly. On whether he has any sympathy for bowlers, Cummins says he has a lot, especially in these high-scoring games where there is often not much in it for them. He adds that even towards the end, executing a perfect delivery like a well-nailed yorker can still be the difference in a match. He also points out that really good bowlers continue to have a big impact, citing Eshan from their team as a key example. Cummins notes that Eshan has been a major reason behind their wins and currently holds the Purple Cap, stressing that bowlers can still play a huge role despite the challenges.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Heinrich Klaasen wins the award for his match-winning 65* off 30. He says counter-attacking was not really the plan when he got out there, but with a big gap at cow corner, he felt the need to take the risk early. The wicket was good, and against a quality bowling attack, it was about taking chances and trying to make it easier. Mentions that his left shoulder has been troubling him a bit, so he is not as strong over cow corner, and has been working on other options. The slinger has been helping with plenty of balls, and that is coming along nicely. Klaasen plays it down when asked if he is feeling invincible, saying it is a new day every time and he prefers to stay humble. He jokes about hoping the baby does not keep him up, and adds that it is enjoyable to watch Abhishek and Head put bowlers under pressure, as it makes things easier for the rest. He reveals that Arora had asked if he could go for the shots when 11 were needed off 12, and he encouraged him to finish the game. He praises him for delivering on the big stage, adding that they see that ability regularly in the nets and it is great to see his progress.
Presentation time...
Time to hear from one half of 'Travishek' - Abhishek Sharma gets the Orange Cap and says that with teams consistently posting big totals, the onus on openers has only increased. He stressed the importance of maximising the Powerplay, adding that he and Travis Head aim to provide strong starts and set the tone early. Speaking about their partnership, he highlights Head’s calm presence and says their approach is simple - watch the ball, play accordingly, and keep communication clear under pressure while backing their instincts. On chasing targets, he mentions that they do not focus on numbers during the innings, only becoming aware of milestones when they appear on the big screen, preferring to stay in the moment and react naturally. He also credits the bowling unit, acknowledging how tough it is to bowl in this format. He praises the likes of Malinga and Pat Cummins for sticking to their plans, and shares that their consistency, along with strong leadership from the captain, has played a key role in the team's success.
The captain of Mumbai Indians - On being asked about how difficult was it bowling with the dew, Hardik says he doesn't think the dew played much of a role. Admits that they (SRH) some good shots and they (MI) bowled some bad balls. Accepts that they did pull things back a bit, but it wasn't just enough in the end. Hardik Pandya, on his bowling, says he enjoyed himself and had fun out in the field. He backs his bowlers to defend 244 on most days but acknowledges it was not MI's day, adding that he bowled well for the most part, barring the last three balls. On the dropped catches, Hardik says it has been that kind of a season and stresses that when chances come your way, you have to hold on to them or pay the price. He is quick to add that all the boys have tried hard. On whether they need to change their bowling attack, Hardik admits options are limited this season and does not want to single out any bowler. He says as an overall unit, MI have not been able to live up to what the franchise stands for, but expresses hope that they will figure things out, pointing to the passion of the owners and support staff. On the crowd support, Hardik says MI have not given their fans enough reason to back them, but calls them fantastic and loyal. He admits that they need to entertain the home crowd more to win back that love.
A night to forget for MI - It has been that kind of season for Mumbai Indians, and failing to defend 243 will hurt them badly. Their bowlers were taken apart in the Powerplay, with even Bumrah proving ineffective, and they simply had no answers to the onslaught. There were moments that could have turned things - Head edged one early but there was no appeal, and Naman Dhir put him down not once, not twice, but three times, costly errors against a player of his calibre. The only brief glimmer came when AM Ghazanfar struck twice in two balls, with Hardik Pandya adding another as they picked up three wickets in seven deliveries, but they just could not build on it. Boult grabbed one towards the end, but it was far too late, while Bumrah ended up giving away 54 runs in his four overs. The decision to bring in Shardul Thakur as the Impact Sub but not use him fully summed up a forgettable outing for MI.
Rickelton's record blitz - Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians posted the highest-ever IPL total while batting first at the Wankhede Stadium, highlighted by a stunning 123* off 55 from Ryan Rickelton. He brought up a 44-ball hundred, breaking the record of Sanath Jayasuriya for the fastest century by an MI batter, and was well supported by brisk cameos from Will Jacks at the top and Hardik Pandya at the death. Eshan Malinga was once again the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers Hyderabad with an excellent spell of 1/29, while Pat Cummins remained economical despite going wicketless. Hinge picked up a couple, with Sakib Hussain and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipping in with one each, and they did well to pull things back in the final four overs, giving their batters a fighting chance.
Smooth sailing for SRH - Chasing such a massive target, Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a strong Powerplay, and with Travishek at the top, that is almost a given. They did not disappoint, as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head went berserk, with the Aussie leading the charge while also riding his luck and making it count. The duo put on 92 in the Powerplay and did not slow down, continuing to find boundaries at will to add 129 for the opening stand, before a sudden wobble saw them slip to 133/3, losing all three of their top-order batters in quick succession. However, their most in-form batter this season, Heinrich Klaasen, ensured there were no further hiccups. He batted effortlessly, picking his spots and bringing up a 22-ball fifty, getting good support from Nitish Kumar Reddy first and then Salil Arora, who applied the finishing touches with an eye-catching cameo of 30* off just 10 balls to seal the deal with more than an over to spare.
Run-chase madness continues - Another day in IPL 2026, another massive chase! No total seems safe anymore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad made a mockery of this pursuit, pulling off the fourth-highest chase in the history of the league and the highest ever at the Wankhede. It also marks their fifth win in a row, along with their 100th victory in the IPL. It will be a tough pill to swallow for the Mumbai Indians, who slump to their fourth defeat at home this season, unfamiliar territory for them.
SIX! Dismissed out of his presence! Arora completes the job for his side in style. And according to Ian Bishop on air, this is the fourth-highest successful run chase in IPL history. Hardik slams the deck hard, on a length, on middle and leg. Salil Arora reads the length nicely, pivots on the back foot and short-arm jabs it comfortably over deep mid-wicket for a cracking six. The Orange Army marches on as they have ransacked this mammoth target like it's nothing. This is also SRH's 100th IPL win (shown on the on-air graphic). They become the 8th team in IPL history to achieve this feat. SRH BEAT MI BY 6 WICKETS.
Swing and a miss! Hard length outside off, skidding through. Salil Arora is hurried to play the pull shot, misses to connect.
SIX! SCORES ARE LEVEL! A gift from Hardik. A low full toss, on off. Salil Arora accepts it gleefully and nails it into the stands behind cow corner.
FOUR! That should be the game for SRH! Back of a length, just outside off. Salil Arora stands tall and tries to pull but gets a thick top edge. It flies over short fine leg for a boundary. One bounce and into the ropes.
Hardik Pandya to bowl the penultimate over.

Low full toss, around off, Salil slaps it wide of long off for a single. Sorry-looking figures for Bumrah as he finishes with 4-0-54-0.
SIX! Oh, my days! A no-look six to Bumrah. And suddenly one of the best bowlers of the world has no answers at all. Change of pace, slow and full, on off. Salil Arora clears the front leg and pumps it downtown for a massive six.
Slower length ball, outside off. Klaasen hangs back and heaves it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
Strong response from Bumrah! Well-directed short ball, rearing up a bit as well, on top of middle. Heinrich Klaasen is rushed on the pull shot but inside edges on the right bicep.
FOUR! Outstanding shot! Bumrah slips in a full toss, on middle and off. Heinrich Klaasen picks it up and thrashes it over the bowler for a cracking boundary down the ground. 19 needed off 16 balls.
Cannons a full ball, missing the yorker by a yard or so. Salil Arora gets on the front foot and flicks it to widish long on for a single.
Jasprit Bumrah to bowl out now. He has not had a great outing with the ball, but can he do something special with his final over? SRH need 24 runs in 18 balls.

Yes, he does wrap it well. Dishes out a full toss at thigh height, on of. Arora mistimes it down the ground to long on for a single only. 4-0-41-1 tonight for Boult.
Full and outside off, Klaasen cannot get under it and scuffs it off the inner half to the left of long off for a run. Can Boult close out well?
Slower bouncer, on off, Salil mistimes the pull shot, but it lands safely in the deep mid-wicket region for a single.
FOUR! Skilful shot from Salil! Also, good awareness of the field as well. Cross-seam delivery, too full and outside off. Salil Arora bends low, opens the bat face at the point of contact and squeezes it to the left of the diving backward point fielder for a boundary.
The next batter in is Salil Arora.
OUT! HIGH UP AND CAUGHT! Boult with a massive breakthrough for his side. We have seen a couple going down tonight, but Suryakumar Yadav holds onto the skier. Boult puts everything into this one. Bends his back and bangs it short on the stumps, 138.2 kph. Reddy sits deep in the crease and goes for the pull but gets a top edge that sends the ball kissing the moon before swirling back down under the night sky. Suryakumar at deep square leg does a fine job settling under it and pouches it safely. Sunrisers Hyderabad are 213/4, needing 31 runs from 22 balls.
Very full and on off, Heinrich Klaasen tries to crash it through covers, but gets a fat inside edge to long on for a single. Klaasen is livid with himself for not timing that well.

FOUR! Creamed into the gap! Good length outside off, 114.8 kph. Reddy takes a step away to the leg side and frees his arms, driving it crisply on the up past the right of covers for a blazing boundary.
Loopy and full at the stumps, 92.4 kph, right in the block hole. Klaasen backs away and drives it out to deep extra cover for a single.
SIX! A breathtaking hit! Pitched fuller and around off and middle, spinning in. Heinrich Klaasen switches his stance, gets down on a knee and nails the switch hit over deep third for an enormous six.
Fuller and on leg, Reddy runs it down to long on for a single.
Seam up delivery at 112.9 kph, on off, on a length. Heinrich Klaasen tucks it to deep mid-wicket for a single. 200 UP FOR SRH!
SIX! FIFTY FOR KLAASEN! His 11th IPL half century and he has made this look ridiculously easy. Fuller from Ghazanfar, on middle and leg. Heinrich Klaasen backs away, makes room for himself and gloriously lofts it inside out over extra cover for a biggie.
An over dipped in gold from Boult. 5 overs left, SRH need 51 runs. AM Ghazanfar (3-0-32-2) is back on.

Nails the wide yorker, outside off, angling away, Nitish Kumar Reddy fails to connect again. Superb over, just 4 runs off it!
Fuller again and around off, angling away, Nitish Kumar Reddy goes down and tries the reverse scoop but misses. Boult has a slight enquiry but gets nothing from the umpire.
Right in the blockhole, on off, Heinrich Klaasen bunts it out past the bowler, but Ashwani Kumar from long on moves to his left quickly to keep it down to one.
Pitched up and on off, Nitish Kumar Reddy drills it really hard down the pitch. Trent Boult on his follow-through, sticks his left foot out and the ball deflects off the boot towards mid-wicket. The Kiwi himself chases it down and they cross.
Fuller again and outside off, Heinrich Klaasen crouches low and drives it to sweeper cover for a run.
Fuller and on middle, shapes in, Nitish Kumar Reddy flicks it off the inner half of the bat to deep square leg for a single.
STRATEGIC BREAK! There was a glimmer of hope for the Mumbai Indians when they managed to run through the top three in a quick span. But since his arrival, Heinrich Klaasen, the man in form, has taken matters into his own hands and is walking this chase for the Sunrisers. One might argue that the dew has played a significant role, but to be very fair, barring Hardik and Ghazanfar, there hasn't been consistent bowling by the others, which also includes Bumrah. He was brought on to bowl a quiet over, but he couldn't. MI need a moment of brilliance and need to get Klaasen dismissed as quickly as possible. With 7 wickets in hand, and 55 runs to win in 6 overs, the tourists have their noses ahead. Trent Boult (2-0-29-0) is back on, replacing Hardik Pandya.

Slower one, hard length and on off, Nitish Kumar Reddy punches it down the pitch. Jasprit Bumrah stops it with his left hand on the follow-through.
Pitched up and on middle, angling in, Heinrich Klaasen tucks it through mid-wicket for a run.
SIX! This has been a rare off day for Jasprit Bumrah, but you cannot take anything out of this shot. Fuller delivery, on off. Heinrich Klaasen backs away a bit, opens the bat face and rockets it like it's nothing over the deep extra cover fence for a biggie. It was a biggie the moment it left the blade. EDGED AND FOUR! Effort ball from Hardik Pandya as he bends his back and bangs this into the pitch, on off. Heinrich Klaasen looks to cut, but this is too close to his body. It takes the top edge and flies between the keeper and short third for a boundary. 68 needed in 42 balls now.
Hard length and just outside off, Heinrich Klaasen punches it with sweet timing but straight to extra cover. Klaasen throws his bat in the air in frustration.
WIDE! Three dots followed by three wides! Fuller and way outside off once more, Heinrich Klaasen is not interested in playing that.
Hardik is struggling with the landing area. Some sawdust is being sprinkled over the area of concern. Remember, Hardik had predicted at the toss that the wind would keep the dew at bay, but there is not a breath of wind on the field right now and the dew has settled in heavily.
WIDE! Another one! Spills this full and much outside off again, Heinrich Klaasen lets it go. Second wide of the over.
WIDE! Pitched up but just over the tramline, on off, Heinrich Klaasen leaves it alone.
Three dots in a row! Pandya follows up the yorker with a deceptive slower bumper, on middle. Heinrich Klaasen sways away and looks for the upper cut, but fails to connect.
Excellent bowling! Hardik Pandya nails another yorker, outside off. Heinrich Klaasen tries to reach out for it but misses and ends up hitting the bat on the ground.
Gets the wide yorker right, outside off, Heinrich Klaasen can only dig it back to the bowler.
Full and outside off, Nitish Kumar Reddy reaches out and drives it square through point for a single.
The game has turned its course once again. SRH need 76 runs from 48 balls. And now, the umpires have decided to change the ball as this has gotten too wet. The fourth umpire walks out with a box of replacement balls. Another one is picked up, and we are good to go. Hardik Pandya brings himself into the attack. 2-0-15-1 so far. He has been the best of the seamers tonight, by some distance.

FOUR! This is just sublime batting! Kumar goes back to the short of a length and on middle. Heinrich Klaasen gets on his toes and heaves it away. He does not hit it hard but rolls his wrists and picks the gap to perfection between deep mid-wicket and long on for the fourth boundary of the over.
MI are unhappy with the state of the ball, which has soaked up a significant amount of moisture due to the dew. SKY shows the ball to the on-field umpire, but nothing doing yet.
FOUR MORE! This is a gift! Ashwani Kumar bowls a juicy full toss, outside off, there to be hit. Heinrich Klaasen is not going to miss out on that and blasts it past the diving extra cover fielder for four more runs.
FOUR! Powered away! Short again and on off, but not enough to trouble the batter. Heinrich Klaasen stands tall and swats it back past the bowler for another boundary.
A full toss, on off, Nitish Kumar Reddy drills it with a straight bat to long off for a run.

Will Hardik continue? He won't. Ashwani Kumar is brought back on. Went for 23 runs in his only over so far.

SIX! Oh, that's even better! Shorter in length again and on middle, Heinrich Klaasen once again gets on top of it and whacks it flat and over the deep mid-wicket fence for half a dozen more.
FOUR! Put away! AM Ghazanfar drags his length back, on middle. Heinrich Klaasen picks up the length early, stands tall and heaves it over mid-wicket for another boundary.
Flatter, short and on middle, Heinrich Klaasen tucks it away to short mid-wicket.
Floated, full and on off, Nitish Kumar Reddy mistimes his drive off the bottom half of the bat to long off for a single.
FOUR! Poor delivery and punished! Fires this one full but down the leg side, Nitish Kumar Reddy does not miss out and paddles it away past the keeper and to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
Halfway mark! Mumbai Indians have pulled things back well with three quick wickets and will look to put pressure on the SRH middle order now. This game is in the balance at the moment. SRH are 134/3. At the same stage, MI were 124/2. The tourists need 110 runs from 60 balls.

Oh, could have been trouble for Reddy! Overpitched around fourth stump. Nitish presses forward and drives it hard to Suryakumar Yadav at mid off. He sets off immediately for a quick single obeying to Klaasen's call. SKY has a shy at the bowler's end and misses. Nitish dives full length to get home. A direct hit would have been mighty close though. At halfway, SRH are 134/3.
Attacks the stumps, does Hardik, on off. Nitish Kumar Reddy watchfully smothers it down the pitch.
3 wickets in the last 7 balls and Mumbai Indians are back in it big time. Nitish Kumar Reddy comes out to the middle now.
OUT! TAKEN SHARPLY! The MI skipper strikes and out of nowhere, the Mumbai Indians are back in the contest, well and truly. Hardik stays true to his plan. Bowls it wide outside off and it is the low full toss. Travis Head reaches out for it and cannot get under it properly. Scuffs it flatly towards the left of Will Jacks at extra cover. Jacks dives low to his left and plucks a fine catch under pressure. He goes with both hands and holds on to it nicely. Head falls after playing a highly entertaining knock. His best performance so far this season. The top three have gone in the span of just 7 balls. SRH, from 129/0, have slipped down to 133/3.
Full and straight, around off. Heinrich Klaasen slices it over cover-point and the ball follows Naman Dhir yet again. He moves to his left a bit and stops it on a couple of bounces.

No Hat Trick for the Afghan. Bowls it a tad short at the pads, Heinrich Klaasen dinks it to the deep square leg region for a single. A highly successful over for AM Ghazanfar and MI. 2 wickets and just 4 runs from it.
Who will face the hat-trick ball? It will be Heinrich Klaasen.
OUT! CHOPPED ON! Another two-wicket haul for AM Ghazanfar. He continues his magic with the ball this season, and things have flipped in the span of two balls. MI sniff a comeback now. He stays around the stump and lands it fractionally fuller, keeping it just outside the off stump. Ishan Kishan hangs back to cut the ball away, but it is too close for that shot and the ball skids to take the inside edge before crashing into the stumps behind. A golden duck for Ishan Kishan and SRH are 129/2 down now.
Finally, something to cheer for the Mumbai crowd. Ishan Kishan walks out to bat at number 3.
OUT! MISTIMED AND TAKEN! AM Ghazanfar strikes and is fired up, understandably so. MI are up and about finally. Ghazanfar dangles it full outside off, inviting the drive or a big lofted shot. Abhishek takes the bait but slices across the line. The ball is spooned towards the cover-point region. Boult moves to his left at backward point and takes it cleanly. Sunrisers Hyderabad are 129/1, needing 115 more runs from 68 balls.
'Catch it' is the shout, but it lands safely. Flatter, fuller, on off, Abhishek Sharma slices it over extra cover and the ball lands in the vast acreage in the deep. The long off fielder runs to his right and cuts it off. They take a couple of runs.
Into the blockhole, on off. Abhishek carves it back to the bowler. AM Ghazanfar dives low to his right and stops it on his follow-through.
Around the stump. Touch short, outside off. Head arches back and cuts it to deep backward point for a single.

SIX! And just like that, SRH have chopped half the runs from the target! Served right into the slot, on the leg stump line. Travis Head brings his bottom hand in play and whips it comfortably over deep mid-wicket for half a dozen runs. That's the 11th six of the innings already and the 8th for Travis Head.
Toe-crusher from Hardik. Yorker on legs, Abhishek shovels it away through mid on for a single.
Off cutter, short on leg. Head controls the pull shot along the ground to deep backward square leg for a run.
Low full toss, on the stumps, this is flicked to deep mid-wicket for a single.
Perfect yorker on middle. Head's head falls over but he manages to squeeze it off the inside edge to backward square leg. A single taken.

FOUR! Absolutely carted away! Too full, on off, Travis Head clears the front leg to make room and blasts it past Suryakumar Yadav. He dives to his left from cover but the ball races away for a boundary.
SIX! With absolute ease! Slower off cutter, short and on off. Travis Head waits back and carves it over deep backward point for a cracking six.
SIX! Chance for a catch, but Dhir once again cannot do a clean job in the deep. FIFTY FOR TRAVIS HEAD. Off just 20 balls. His first this season. Full and outside off. Head gets forward and launches it up and over point once more. Naman Dhir at deep point is right up against the fence, maybe a yard or two in off the ropes. He leaps and takes the catch, but lands on the boundary skirting with the ball still in hand. He fails to release it in time before touching the rope. 100 up for Sunrisers Hyderabad in just 6.3 overs.
Tries the yorker on the stumps. Abhishek jams the bat down and converts it into a full toss and drills it down to long on for a run.
FOUR! Cracking shot! Kumar bowls it fuller one, just outside off. Abhishek Sharma gets into a good position on the front foot and smashes it over extra cover for a boundary. One bounce and into the fence.
WIDE! Reload! Way too short and over off, at 120.4 kph. Abhishek drops the wrists to leave as the ball spoons over his head.
Strategic Break! Sunrisers Hyderabad have nullified Mumbai Indians' Powerplay and have even bettered it by some margin. The 'Travishek' pairing has found its rhythm, and as long as these two remain out there, Mumbai will be left scratching their heads, as keeping the runs in check is almost impossible against this duo. However, there was a moment where Head edged a ball, but no one really appealed, letting him away, and Naman Dhir has also dropped him twice. Jasprit Bumrah too has gone for runs and Hardik Pandya will be hoping that they can pull things back in the middle overs, or else this could get away very quickly. Here is Ashwani Kumar to bowl after the break.

Mini conference between Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav. Seems like the ball has been lost, and the on-field umpires select a replacement from the briefcase.
SIX! This is brilliant batting! Bumrah comes from around the stump and lands it short, on off. Abhishek Sharma shimmies down the track, moves leg side to create room and uppercuts it into the stands behind deep backward point. 17 runs off the over so far, with a ball to go.
Low full toss at 141 kph, around off. Abhishek drives it straight to Tilak at cover-point. Couldn't get it through.
Effort ball as this is bashed hard into the surface, on top of middle. Head is rushed on the pull shot, inside edges around his left armpit and the ball rolls to the point region for a single.
FOUR! Perfect manipulation of the field! Bowls it a bit too full and on off. Travis Head opens the bat face at the last second and carves it over and between backward point and short third for a boundary.
SIX! OUTTA HERE! Bumrah serves a half volley on off. Travis Head clears the front leg, keeps his head steady and finds the sweet spot of the bat. Launches it 99 meters over the sightscreen for a massive six.
The runs are bleeding at the moment for MI. They need someone to stop this assault. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav is getting his left thigh strapped up, just above the knee roll. Might have pulled up or overstretched. Will Hardik go back to Bumrah for the final over of the Powerplay? Yes, he will. Not a bad idea. You want your best bowler to be bowling in such a situation. Flighted, full and on off, Travis Head eases it to long off for a run.
FOUR! Gets it away! Floated, full and on middle and off, Travis Head gets down on one knee and slog sweeps it wide of deep mid-wicket. The fielder there dives to his right but just fails to reach it as the ball deflects off his hands and over the fence for a boundary.
Just over! AM Ghazanfar drops this short again and outside off, Travis Head moves back to punch it away but ends up slicing it. The ball flies towards point, where Naman Dhir leaps up to grab it above his head with both hands, but the ball clips his fingertips and goes behind. SIX! Much more in control this time! Trent Boult lands this back of a length and outside off again. Travis Head gets the chance to free his arms and flays hard at it, carving it over the deep extra cover fence for another biggie.
Short of a length and on off, Travis Head keeps it out to the off side.
Swing and a miss! Good length and around off, shaping away, Travis Head has a swing across the line but misses as the ball keeps low.

FOUR LEG BYES! The runs keep coming! Jasprit Bumrah bowls this on a hard length but around leg once again. Abhishek Sharma misses his flick and the ball goes off his pads past the keeper, to the fine leg fence for a boundary.

WIDE! Pace off, back of a length but way outside off, Hardik Pandya lets it go.
Much fuller and on middle, Hardik Pandya stays deep in the crease and bunts it down the ground past the bowler and between long on and long off for a brace. The 50-run partnership comes up between this pair.

Right in the blockhole, on middle, tailing in a bit, Hardik Pandya can only jam it out towards mid-wicket for one.

Short of a length and outside off, gives no pace at all, Ryan Rickelton hops up and punches it through cover-point for a single.
STRATEGIC BREAK! After a brief spell of lull, Mumbai Indians have roared back with a couple of big overs. 35 runs have come in the last 2 overs and the hosts are back with the momentum. Ryan Rickelton has gone about his business with absolute fluency and Hardik Pandya has looked proactive as well so far. With the 200 already breached, and 7 wickets in hand with four overs to spare, MI would be disappointed if they don't get their score around or above 250. The Sunrisers are searching for breakthroughs, but even if they manage to restrict MI to 230-ish, they would take it. Eshan Malinga has been a standout among all the bowlers amid the run-fest. Cummins brings himself into the attack and will bowl out. 3-0-33-0 so far are his bowling figures.

Oh, had to hurry there! Good length on the pads, 136.5 kph. Pandya flicks it towards mid-wicket where Head dives to his right and stops it well. He fires it back to the bowler's end, Hinge collects on the bounce, runs and breaks the stumps, but Pandya is safely home.
Out goes Naman Dhir, in comes skipper Hardik Pandya.
OUT! HIGH UP AND TAKEN IN THE DEEP! Not the most fluent knocks from Naman and he bites the dust. Praful has his first wicket. He stays around the stump and cannons in a fuller-length delivery, around leg. Naman Dhir cannot quite get under the ball properly. Clears the front leg and tries to launch it over deep mid-wicket, but slices it miles up in the air. Gets more height than the distance and goes only as far as Harsh Dubey stationed at deep mid-wicket. Dubey sees the ball like a hawk and takes a fine catch. Mumbai Indians are 165/3.

We are all set to begin now! Regardless of the results, the ever-passionate MI Paltan continues to turn up in numbers, painting the Wankhede in a sea of blue and it is no different here in Mumbai tonight. Out come the two umpires, followed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad players who spread out to take their respective field positions. A new opening combination for the Mumbai Indians - Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton. The skipper of SRH, Pat Cummins has the new ball in his hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
Impact sub options for SRH - Ravichandran Smaran, Aniket Verma, Liam Livingstone, Shivang Kumar and Harshal Patel.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI) - Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (WK), Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Pat Cummins (C), Harsh Dubey (In place of Shivang Kumar), Sakib Hussain, Praful Hinge and Eshan Malinga.
Impact sub options for MI - Mayank Rawat, Raghu Sharma, Shardul Thakur, Krish Bhagat and Raj Bawa.
Mumbai Indians (Playing XI) - Ryan Rickelton (WK) (In place of Quinton de Kock), Will Jacks (In place of Sherfane Rutherford), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (C), Robin Minz (In place of Krish Bhagat), Trent Boult (In place of Mitchell Santner), Jasprit Bumrah, AM Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar.
The captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad - Pat Cummins, about his thoughts on the toss result, says that they would have bowled first anyway. Details that it's a bit tacky in nature, so they are happy to bowl. More broadly, he stresses the importance of resetting expectations from game to game, noting that each pitch asks different questions and the key is to assess the conditions in front of you rather than arrive with a fixed mindset. On team changes, Cummins confirms Harsh Dubey comes into the side in place of Shivang Kumar. On supporting his bowlers through difficult spells, Cummins says he hopes they trust what he tells them. He shares that he uses his own opinion of the pitch to guide them and is not shy about the fact that he has been hit around himself in the past. For him, he says, it is about putting an arm around his bowlers and making sure they feel backed and confident enough to come back hard.
The captain of the Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya says that it looks like a breezy and cold evening and dew would not play a factor, so they want to put up a good score. Adds that they just needed to take some time off, had a couple of good boys' night outs. Pandya shares that it was important for all of them to just reset and not get too complicated. He reckons they are refreshed and are excited for this game. Hardik informs that it was an unfortunate injury to Santner and Quinton de Kock has also done something to his wrist. So, Ryan Rickelton comes in the team along with Robin Minz. Ends by saying that Rohit will take a couple of more games, he is trying but still not where he wants to be.
TOSS - It is coming to toss time in Wankhede. Both captains, Hardik Pandya and Pat Cummins, are out in the middle with the team sheets exchanged. Ian Bishop will lead the proceedings. Hardik gives it a flick and Cummins calls it incorrectly. Mumbai Indians elect to BAT first.
A word from the MI camp - Sherfane Rutherford, when asked about MI being in a very tough spot and how the team plans to make a comeback, says that whenever he looks at the squad, everyone is a match-winner. He agrees that they are not in a good position, but stresses that it is important for each player to look at themselves and have that self-belief. He adds that there are two ways to respond - you either let it go, or you fight back. On adapting to different roles, Rutherford says he has reached a point of full acceptance. Shares that he prepares specifically for the different situations he is likely to face in each training session and backs his own ability to deliver regardless of the role assigned to him. He feels that in modern cricket, versatility is not optional, but a necessity, and for him, it has become second nature. On his overall outlook, Rutherford says playing cricket is a privilege he never takes for granted. Says playing in the IPL was always his dream, and now that he is here, he is determined to soak in every moment while giving his absolute best every time.
SRH's Mr Consistent is up for a chat - Heinrich Klaasen, when asked how his mind works when he comes in to bat in different situations, says he simply provides whatever the team requires. Details that if he sees his partner hitting the ball well, he focuses on rotating the strike and playing risk-free shots. He adds, however, that in the last couple of matches he was required to play aggressive cricket, and he's happy to fill that role for his team. On the modern aggressive style of batting, Klaasen shares that players are smart enough nowadays. Adds that they always look to take the game deep, while also targeting a couple of boundaries every over. On whether 230 is the new par score, Klaasen says it depends on the surface but reckons teams can now comfortably push 15 to 20 runs beyond what was once considered par. He believes the impact player takes pressure off the top order to respect conditions. On tonight's plan, Klaasen hopes the Travishek opening combination and Ishan Kishan at three go at 15 to 16 an over upfront, which would make his job in the middle order far more comfortable. He stresses that a good start is not just desirable tonight, but crucial to get a win and make their qualification chances higher.
PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop is pitchside. He says that the square boundaries are 61 and 67 meters, while the straight hit is 72 meters. Nick Knight joins him and says that in the good-length area, there is a nice covering of grass, which the bowlers will like to exploit, but it might slide nicely onto the bat as well. Bishop walks to the other end and shares that there is a bit of a dry patch there, and the slower balls into the surface will hold up in there, aiding the bowlers.
Where's Hitman? Less than a day until the veteran ex-MI skipper turns 39. Rohit has been spotted in the nets, but whether he takes the field for this game remains a question nobody has a firm answer to yet. If there is one ground where Rohit showing up matters, it is Wankhede. In fact, his presence itself uplifts the spirits in the camp. The man has built a love story with this venue over the years, crossing 2500 IPL runs here and counting. And when it comes to the Sunrisers specifically, no one in the current MI squad has scored more runs than him.
The Wankhede challenge - May 17, 2022. This was the last time SRH won against MI at Wankhede. Overall, it hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Orange Army as they have won just two matches overall in the IPL. That said, Mumbai Indians have done little to make this fortress feel like one lately. Three consecutive home defeats have dented their aura at Wankhede, and a 103-run thrashing at the hands of CSK in their last game here was their heaviest and most deflating loss of the season. Both sides carry a bit of scars into this one. Historical numbers favour MI, but recent form has been with SRH. It’s a must-win for the hosts to keep their playoff hopes alive. The tourists know that a victory here lifts them as high as third on the table. Let’s see who wins this tourney. Toss and team sheets coming up shortly. Stay tuned.
Underrated, but mighty effective - Sunrisers Hyderabad unarguably boast one of the most fearsome batting units in the competition. But what has added real substance to their campaign is the way their bowling attack has stood up so far. Coming into the season, this was a unit that had question marks all over it. Thin on experience, untested under pressure. Despite being without their full-time skipper Pat Cummins for the bulk of the campaign, the Sunrisers have won four of their five games while defending totals. Yet the bowlers did not flinch. Rookies like Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain have punched well above their weight, stepping into a high-pressure environment and delivering when it counted, led by Eshan Malinga, who has been a constant wicket-taker. Cummins has only just returned, who played his first game of the season last time around, which has only added more conviction to their attack.
Running out of time - Mumbai Indians are the perennial slow-starters, but have found ways to crash through to the next stage. They did that in 2015. Lost four of the first five games, but what followed after that was an insane comeback for the ages, which also saw them lift the trophy. But this time around, the cracks are very concerning. Despite having a star-studded and experienced batting unit, runs haven’t come at the pace and with the consistency they would have liked. Barring Quinton de Kock and Tilak Varma’s respective hundreds, there has hardly been any sort of fight from elsewhere. Even with the ball, leaving aside Bumrah and Ghazanfar, they have lacked the penetration that used to win them so many games. For them to qualify, they need to win at least six out of their remaining seven games. Not impossible, but it's not going to be easy either.
Life in a Metro - It is widely said that Mumbai is a city that never sleeps. Miss the last local train, and the city does not leave you stranded. There is always another way home. A different route, a different ride, a different door that stays open just long enough. Mumbai Indians are desperately searching for that door right now. The season has not gone to plan, the points have not come in the numbers they needed, and the playoff window that once looked like a wide-open gate has shrunk to a crack. Tonight, they cannot afford another missed train. The opponents in town are Sunrisers Hyderabad, a side that has hit form most unbelievably. They have been sharp, they have been consistent, and they will not be making things easy for the hosts. Hello and welcome to our coverage of the 41st match of IPL 2026.
... MATCH DAY ...
A clash of contrasts in Mumbai - Time flies, doesn't it? The 2026 Indian Premier League has already completed its first month, with 40 matches in the books. Match 41 takes us to the Wankhede Stadium, where the Mumbai Indians take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a game between two teams in very different form. Mumbai look for answers - The Mumbai Indians have traditionally been slow starters, but that turnaround has not materialised yet this season. They began with a win but then lost four matches in a row. A big win over the Gujarat Titans gave some hope, but they were then handed a drubbing by the Chennai Super Kings, suffering their biggest loss in IPL history in terms of runs. The five-day break may help them reset. With 3 games in 6 days coming up, this could be a key phase to build momentum. Problems with the ball - Struggles for MI have been on both fronts. With the ball, in three games this season where they have bowled first (excluding the 12-over shootout against the Rajasthan Royals), they have conceded over 200 runs each time. At the Wankhede Stadium, they have gone at 11.25 runs per over. To be fair, the conditions have not offered much help to the bowlers. There have been some positives. AM Ghazanfar has impressed, and Jasprit Bumrah has been economical, though he has only taken 2 wickets in 7 games after going wicketless in his first five. They have also suffered a setback, with Mitchell Santner ruled out due to a shoulder injury he sustained in the game against CSK. South Africa's experienced left-arm finger spinner Keshav Maharaj has been brought in as his replacement. MI's search for runs - With the bat, the Mumbai Indians have not clicked as a unit. 7 games into the season, no batter has scored more than 200 runs. Rohit Sharma's absence due to a hamstring injury has added to their problems. He has missed the last three matches, and Danish Malewar has struggled to make an impact at the top. Rohit might return against SRH, which would be a timely boost. His partnership with Quinton de Kock could be key, after all, they average 48.16 together as an opening pair at the Wankhede. Hyderabad on a winning run - The Sunrisers Hyderabad come into this game on the back of a four-match winning streak. However, the Wankhede has not been a happy hunting ground for them. They have managed just 2 wins in 14 games here and have lost their last four matches at this ground. Firing with the bat - Abhishek Sharma had an inconsistent start to the season, but he has now found form, with scores of 57, 135*, and 59 in his last three innings. His opening partner, Travis Head, is yet to make a big impact, but that has not hurt the team much, thanks to Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen stepping up. Abhishek, Kishan, and Klaasen have all crossed the 300-run mark this season, which has been a big positive for SRH. Another test awaits - SRH's bowling unit has been further strengthened with the arrival of their skipper, Pat Cummins. In his first competitive game since the Ashes Test in Sydney last December, he was miserly in a high-scoring match. He has not only helped with the ball but also brought some luck at the toss. In the 7 games when Ishan Kishan led the team in his absence, SRH lost all 7 tosses. After a tough start against the Royals, SRH fought back well at the death, which will be a tick in the box. With batting-friendly conditions expected in Mumbai, Cummins and his men face a stiff challenge. Team form (Last 5 completed games, recent first) - MI - LWLLL | SRH - WWWLL. What to expect? A run rate of 10.4 across the four games so far highlights just how batting-friendly the conditions have been this season. That is backed up by the boundary count as well, with 86 sixes struck in just 4 matches. All signs point to another high-scoring contest, and once again, bowlers may have to work hard to stay in the game.
